1. [Shenyang, Liaoning Province] Falun Dafa Practitioner Wang Zhiwen Detained at Shenyang Dabei Prison

Wang Zhiwen, male, formerly with the Falun Dafa Association in China, was transferred to and has been detained at Shenyang Dabei Prison for a long time. He is very firm in Dafa. Gao Quju, female, the head of Falun Dafa Assistance Center in Dalian is also detained at Dabei Prison and has been steadfastly practicing Dafa.

2. [Beijing, China] Beijing Falun Dafa Practitioner Distributes Dafa DVDs at Tiananmen Square on July 20

On July 20, 2002, a Beijing practitioner went to Tiananmen Square and sent forth righteous thoughts to eliminate the evil. He/she distributed some Dafa DVDs to the tourists on the square. Although a police officer was quite close, the practitioner just ignored him. None of the tourists refused to accept the DVDs. After giving out more than 10 DVDs, the practitioner felt lighter and safely left the square.

3. [Zhengzhou City, Henan Province] In the Shibalihe Female Forced Labor Camp, Falun Dafa Practitioner Hu Tieling is Brutally Beaten and Her Lumbar Spine is Severely Injured

On June 23, 2002, more than ten practitioners who were illegally detained at Zhengzhou City Shibalihe Female Forced Labor Camp were brutally tortured for refusing the guard's request to sing a song that slandered Falun Dafa. The guard incited the other inmates to beat practitioner Hu Tieling, which caused severe injuries to her lumbar spine, causing her to be unable to walk. The guard also insulted the practitioners while forcing them to sing trills.

4. [Zhishan County, Shanxi Province] Seven Falun Dafa Practitioners Illegally Sentenced

Xian Daily reported on June 29, 2002 that on the morning of June 28, 2002, Zhishan County Court illegally sentenced female practitioners Yang Xueqin, Xu Chunxia, Shi Chuanling, Liang Yuli, Liu Chunxia and male practitioners Zhang Xinjun and Zhang Quanhu to three and a half to nine years in prison. It accused the practitioners of attending a Dafa conference in Caijiapo on October 1, 2001. Fifty-three practitioners attended that conference and some were also illegally detained and sentenced to labor camps. The police used various means to inhumanly torture these practitioners.

6. [Wuhan, Hubei Province] Falun Dafa Practitioner Zhang Weijie Again Arrested

Practitioner Zhang Weijie was arrested around July 20, 2002. He is now being illegally detained at Jiangan Detention Center. Zhang has been persecuted many times for persistently practicing Dafa. In 2001, he was sentenced to one year in a labor camp for going to Beijing to validate Dafa. Zhang's recent arrest is related to the escalating evil persecution and his betrayal by a former practitioner.

7. [Shanghai, China] Falun Dafa Broadcasting Echoes Above a Residential Area in Yangpu District

At 7:40 p.m. on August 1, 2002, Falun Dafa broadcasting echoed above a residential area in Yangpu district. The broadcast lasted for 15 minutes. The police came within five minutes but it took them 10 minutes to disassemble the radio speaker. Many people were listening at that time.

8. [Dalian, Liaoning Province] Female Dafa Practitioner in Her Sixties Sent to Masanjia Forced Labor Camp

One night in the beginning of June 2002, female Dafa practitioner Duan Liwei was arrested at her home by police officers Zhao Guangyuan, Liang Shen, and others from Zhongshan District Chunhai Police Station. After being detained at the station for one day with two other female practitioners, she was sentenced to two years in a labor camp and sent to Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. Duan is over 60 and has a hearing problem. She broke one leg last year while escaping from a brainwashing class and could not stand up for long time. She had to leave her sick husband at home who needs to be cared for. We heard that the police were arresting people in order to fill a so-called quota.

9. [Fushun City, Liaoning Province] Xinbin County Dafa Practitioner Shangyong Is Missing From the Second Detention Center at Hainan Province Haikou City, Xiuying District

Shangyong, male, 41, a resident of Xinbin county in Fushun City, worked at the Xinbin People's Court. In 1999, he was illegally dismissed for practicing Falun Gong. At the end of December 2000, he was forced to become homeless to avoid the persecution. In the middle of September 2001, Haikou City Police Department in Hainan Province arrested him and sent him to the No. 15 Cell of the Second Detention Center in Xiuying district of Haikou City. We have not heard from him since April 2002.

10. [Changping District, Beijing] The Persecution of a Falun Gong Practitioner

The local police are threatening the safety of Changping practitioners. They forcefully entered a practitioner's home without the owners' presence and found some Dafa books. They used the books as evidence and sentenced the practitioner to two years in a labor camp. The police also constantly monitor practitioners' homes and follow them. The police even interrogate the schoolmates of practitioners' children who just visit the children. The police forcefully took a practitioner despite the fact that she has a child in middle school and a disabled parent at home. She had recently lost her husband and had no source of income.

11. [Hefei, Anhui Province] Hefei "610" Office and the First Police Section Conduct Massive Arrests of Falun Dafa Practitioners

1. Since June 2002, Hefei First Police Section has arrested over 20 Dafa practitioners. Most of the practitioners were arrested in the middle of the night by the police forcefully breaking into their homes. Some practitioners were arrested while making Dafa materials. The police even brought firefighters to help break into some practitioners' homes.
