Ms. Yang Yanqiu, 54 years old, was a secondary school teacher at Qiqihar City Middle School No. 36. In December 2001 she was arrested for insisting on practicing Dafa, and promoting and validating Dafa, and was detained at Qiqihar City's No. 2 Detention Center. She didn't give up her belief. In April 2002, she was illegally sentenced to five years of imprisonment. In December 2002 she was sent to Harbin City's Women's Prison.

Officials in Harbin City's Women's Prison cruelly torture Dafa practitioners and forcibly put those practitioners who refused to write the so-called "Guarantee Statement"(*1) into solitary confinement. Yang Yanqiu was put into solitary confinement for many days because she was determined in her cultivation. During this period of time, the personnel at the detention center didn't allow her family members to visit her. On February 21, 2003, Ms. Yang was tortured so badly that she lost control of her bowels, had pain in her stomach and the entire abdomen, and was unable to sit up. Her life was in danger. Her family members weren't informed until she was brought for emergency treatment to the second floor of Harbin City's PLA No. 211 Hospital.

Due to the severe torture, Yang Yanqiu has become extremely skinny and often approaches a comatose state. Doctors, nurses, and her family members are all closely monitored. Yang has been staying at the hospital for around ten days. Her family members have already spent over 30,000 Yuan(*2) for her care.

On March 20, 2003, personnel from the Chengqu Town "610 Office," (*3) in the Changping District, and policemen from the Songyuan Police Station took practitioner Mr. Yang Binghai away. In October 2002, those policemen attempted to arrest Yang Binghai and his wife Ms. Yang Xiuling, but met with resistance from the couple's righteous thoughts. The couple exposed the persecution on their balcony, so the policemen's conspiracy didn't materialize. On the morning of March 20, 2003, as usual, Yang Binghai rode his transportation service tricycle, his profession. Not far away from his home, several policemen knocked him down with a car and quickly put him into the car. Since that time his whereabouts have been unknown. At noon of the same day, his son Yang Xiong rode a bicycle looking for him and was taken away by police by the same means. He was taken to the Songyuan Police Station. The police threatened him and coerced him into persuading his mother into a brainwashing class. He was released more than an hour later. The young man was mentally shocked. He felt frightened after going home and cried for half a day. Yang Xiong is a Grade 3 senior high school student and is facing university entrance exams. With his father arrested, his mother being monitored and the whole family under persecution, he was unable to go to school in a normal manner and can't go over his lessons at all.

On the afternoon of February 19, 2003, when some truth-deceived people from Xing Village, Yang Village and Wan Village in Jing County reported some Falun Gong practitioners to the police, over 20 policemen from Jing County Township Police Department and the "610 Office" took away 13 Dafa practitioners. The practitioners are: 56-year-old Mr. Wan Jingwu, 57-year-old Ms. Li Xiukun, 54-year-old Mr. Zhao Wenxing, 49-year-old Ms. Wang Guilan, 41-year-old Mr. Zhao Yanming, 31-year-old Ms. Zhao Zhen, 60-year-old Mr. Ye Changming, 56-year-old Ms. Ye (Ye Changming's wife), 60-year-old Mr. Wan Houyi, 56-year-old Ms. Bai Yuzhen, 73-year-old Mr. Yu Hong'en, 49-year-old Mr. Zhao Licun and 61-year-old Mr. Wang Junzhi. For six days leading up to March 9th, some of the practitioners had been staging a hunger strike.

These Dafa practitioners were merely doing the exercises at their homes and cultivating their xinxing. They had never even been to Beijing to appeal; however, they were not spared the persecution.

Recently, some practitioners staying at the Yushu Dafa truth-clarifying materials production center were arrested because special agents who worked with the police reported them to police. The arrested practitioners are: Ms. Liu Huijun, Ms. Gao Xiuqin, Ms. Guo Shuxue, Mr. Su Yucai, Mr. Zhang Yujie and Mr. Lu Shulin.

On the evening of September 30, 2002, local policemen broke into practitioner Ma Houqin's home and took away a computer, a printer, two copy machines and some cash. That same night, practitioner Ma Houqin and his wife were arrested. Mr. Ma's wife was released after a month's detention at the Yingshan County Detention Center, but Mr. Ma is still detained there.

Toward the end of 2002, practitioner Tang Huaiji, from Fengchan Township of Yingshan County, was arrested as he was clarifying the truth of Dafa outdoors. He is now being detained at the Yingshan County Detention Center, and has been illegally sentenced to two years of forced labor.

On March 7, 2003, practitioner Jiang Shilong was arrested at his home. Detailed information is not available. Previously, in August of 1999, Mr. Jiang and practitioners Song Yuesheng and Chen Yuan were illegally sentenced, and Mr. Jiang had been released in August of 2002.

Mr. Zhang Qiang was illegally sentenced to five years of imprisonment for practicing Falun Dafa. In 2001, he was sent to Tangshan City's Jidong Prison. In July 2001, he was put into the "Tightly Administrated Team." The guards tortured Zhang Qiang with all kinds of excruciating methods. They deprived him of sleep for four days; handcuffed his wrists behind his back, and instigated six prisoners to brutally beat him. They hit his fingers with a bamboo board, hung him up on the wall at night with only the tips of his toes touching the ground, took turns shocking him with electric batons, and forbade him to eat or relieve himself. After being tortured into a state of mental confusion, Zhang Qiang wrote the "Guarantee Statement." He was then released from the Tightly Administrated Team on the second day afterward. At that time, one of his calves was even thicker than his thigh. However, the lawless guards still forced him to work. Following his urgent requests, he was able to rest for two days. On the third day, Mr. Zhang Qiang wrote an announcement declaring the "Guarantee Statement" he wrote totally null and void. As a result, lawless enforcers sent him back to the Tightly Administrated Team, and again, he was not allowed to sleep for three days and had to suffer all kinds of excruciating abuse.

Currently, over eighty Dafa practitioners are illegally detained at the Jidong Prison. They are from Baoding City, Zhangjiakou City, Xingtai City, Shijiazhuang City, Changzhou City, Hengshui City and Langfang City, and other places. They have to work overtime shifts on a daily basis and, in addition, are physically punished.

On the afternoon of March 15, 2003, when Ms. Yang Meizhen went out, she was taken away and her whereabouts are unknown.

Huadian City: According to incomplete statistics, one Dafa practitioner has been tortured to death, one disappeared, over fifteen practitioners were illegally sentenced, four of them to 12 years of imprisonment, more than 122 were illegally sentenced to forced labor, at least 149 were illegally detained, and over 150 have been put into brainwashing classes. These statistics exclude Baishan Town.
