Facts of the Persecution

Ms. Wu Xiaohua was an excellent professor at the Construction and Engineering College in Anhui Province. Because she upheld her belief in Dafa, she was arrested many times. Twice she was sent to mental hospitals where she was forcibly injected with unknown medicine. While in detention, her father could not bear the tremendous stress and passed away. However, the "610 Office" (an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems) did not allow her to attend the funeral. She was also twice jailed at the Anhui Women's Labor Camp where she was subjected to all kinds of cruel tortures. She went on a hunger strike to protest the illegal persecution and was force-fed. The police tried to pry open her mouth, and four of her teeth were knocked out. Because of the torture she experienced, her hair turned gray. At present, she has been released on bail. However, her college does not allow her to teach classes. She has been put on surveillance at home.

1) A Mr. Li lives in a certain city in northeast China. One day he suddenly had a headache and a high fever. According to a report from Radio Free Asia, the Hong Kong Legislative Council plans to have a vote on the legislation of Article 23 on July 9. Since the Democratic Party is the minority in the council, it seems the legislation will be passed with no difficulty. Under the arrangement of some US-based human rights organizations, Martin Lee, chairman of the Democratic Party, along with representatives from other parties in Hong Kong, held a symposium on Capitol Hill in the US. Mr. Lee said that Hong Kong is seeking support from the international community. Everything people do is not just to help Hong Kong, but also help China and the whole world. The SARS epidemic has clearly demonstrated that if Hong Kong had done the same thing as Mainland China and did not reveal the true situation of SARS, the outcome would have been really terrible for the entire world.

Radio Free Asia reported recently that encephalitis has broken out in the Meizhou Area of Guangdong Province. As of last Friday, 211 people have been infected and 18 people have died. The Hong Kong government sent some officials to Guangdong to investigate the epidemic so as to assess how much risk Hong Kong might be exposed to. Some people in Hong Kong criticized that there is no good channel of communication between Guangdong Province and Hong Kong.
