1. [Heilongjiang Province] Using Instruments of Torture Including Electric Batons and the "Big Hang Up," Wanjia Forced Labor Camp Forces Falun Dafa Practitioners to Write the So-called "Three Statements"
Personnel at the Wanjia Forced Labor Camp, using instruments of torture such as Electric Batons and the "Big Hang Up,"* forced Falun Dafa practitioners to write the so-called "Three Statements"** in an attempt to coerce the practitioners to turn against Dafa.
Those who refuse to compromise undergo punishment such as forced squatting, sitting on a metal chair, being confined in a solitary compartment, or being shocked with electric batons. Beginning in April of this year, the labor camp became more vicious. The camp police forced Dafa practitioners to make a "pledge" both in the morning and in the evening. During the morning exercise session Dafa practitioners are forced to shout out the pledge. The police compiled 40 questions and forced Dafa practitioners to recite them. If you refuse to recite them you will be tortured or sent to the special division where practitioners are assembled for "training." They must finish their production quota; even sixty or seventy-year-old practitioners are not spared. To be punished by standing for a long time is considered "lenient." The policemen went to every squad to hysterically swear at Dafa practitioners and slander Falun Dafa. The Dafa practitioners who are being illegally kept there are suffering every day.
* "Big Hang Up" There are two forms of this torture: (1) With both hands cuffed behind the back and only toes touching the ground, one is hung by a rope that is tied to the metal window frames; (2) One hand of a practitioner is cuffed to one bunk bed and the other hand to another bed, and the two beds are pulled in the opposite directions.
** "Three Statements" are documents coerced under extreme pressure, torture and brainwashing, designed by the Chinese authorities to ensure that detained Falun Gong practitioners are appropriately brainwashed. The statements consist of a letter of repentance, a guarantee to never again practice Falun gong, and a list containing names and addresses of all family, friends and acquaintances of the detainee who practices Falun gong. This system was concocted by the "610 office," an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.
