Cincinnati Enquirer: Falun Gong practitioners share story of imprisonment

About 20 practitioners of Falun Gong gathered on Fountain Square Saturday afternoon to raise awareness of the plight of Dr. Charles Lee, a Californian serving three years in a Chinese prison for practicing the healing art.

Among the speakers was Lee's fiancée, Yeong-ching Foo of Menlo Park, Calif. They are sharing Lee's story on a nationwide tour, which began in San Francisco, to raise awareness of his plight.

The month long tour is scheduled to end Sept. 16 in Washington, D.C., where supporters will deliver signed petitions to the State Department. Lee has been imprisoned for six months.

Falun Gong, developed in the early 1990s and is similar to Tai Chi, incorporates ancient Chinese body postures and hand movements to promote healing.

At the University of Cincinnati, 600 people signed a petition urging the Chinese government to release Lee.
