Facts of the Persecution

1. The persecution of practitioners at Wuhan University

Officials at Wuhan University, Hebei Province, plan to abduct five teachers and force them to attend brainwashing sessions. Inside sources from Wuhan institutions of higher education reveal that under heavy pressures from the provincial 610 Office, Wuhan University, a famous institution in Hebei Province, is secretly planning to persecute teachers and employees who continue practicing Falun Gong. The university is planning to arrest Huang Keming, Wu Zhenxin, Professors Mao and Huang, among others, and send them to the so-called "Law and Order Education Center" in Hebei Province -- a place that brainwashes Falun Gong practitioners. The 610 Office has also requested that the university pay a 20,000 yuan fee for each individual attending the brainwashing sessions.

2. Xigemu Forced Labor Camp in Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province

Xigemu Forced Labor Camp in Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province, implements various torture methods to persecute Falun Gong practitioners held there. The following is a list of torture methods employed: brainwashing, hands being cuffed together behind the back with one hand being pulled down from the shoulder and the other up from waist, poking detainees with steel needles, pouring hot water over prisoners' bodies, forcing a group of practitioners to sit on a single tiny stool, force-feeding, tying people into a "Death Bed," control by restricting communications, body searches, luggage searches, extending prisoners' sentences, verbal abuse, physical beatings, kicking with heavy boots and shocking with electric or police batons. Some of the practitioners' sentences have been already extended by more than 4 or 5 months. If visiting groups ask to view the prison's conditions, non-practitioners inside the prison will be asked to pose as Falun Gong practitioners. These imposters then tell the visitors that they are well-treated by prison staff, that their food is excellent and that they never receive any physical abuse whatsoever. The prison also buys cakes for and videotapes the visits for later use when making up propaganda "news" clips. As soon as the visitors leave, the situation returns to the usual levels of brutality.

3. The persecution of practitioner Mr. Sun Dianshan at Mudanjiang Prison, Heilongjiang Province

In December of 2004, Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Sun Dianshan, who is being held inside the No. 3 Division of the Fifth Cellblock in Mudanjiang Prison, Heilongjiang Province, was thrown into a secluded tiny room for over 15 days because he asked for his right to freedom of speech. Immediately afterwards, starting on December 6, the entire No. 5 Cellblock carried out a round of persecutions against those Falun Dafa practitioners who had refused to write the so-called "four statements." Practitioner Li Fengquan was beaten so seriously that his lips were swollen, with blood oozing from his mouth. Prison staff continuously shocked and beat Mr. Li on the head and all over his body with electric batons. Once the guards finished torturing him, Mr. Li was taken away by other prisoners who collaborated with staff in return for special consideration. All these evil deeds were conducted in broad daylight, before the eyes of many witnesses.

4. The crimes of Officials Wang Jianping and Yan Zhigang

Wang Jianping and Yan Zhigang, two officials from Linyi City, Shandong Province, have been actively involved in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. Ever since the persecution began on July 20, 1999, these two have closely followed Jiang's regime, and have been persecuting Falun Gong practitioners to their fullest abilities. Yan Zhigang was even promoted to the 610 Office as a result of his zealous persecution of Falun Gong. Both these men make full use of the 610 Office to disregard the laws and regulations, and violate human rights with no scruples whatsoever. They torture Dafa practitioners, both physically and mentally, by abducting them and then forcing them into mental hospitals or brainwashing sessions. For those practitioners who don't want to give up their cultivation of Falun Dafa, these two officials will illegally send them to a forced labor camp or a detention center. They have also forced some practitioners to obtain divorces, and others were tortured until they died.

5. The crimes of Chen Changde, director of the 610 Office in Linyi City

Chen Changde (male) is around 50 years old and used to be a vice-director of a department of the People's Delegation Committee in Linyi City. He was recently promoted to the position of director of the 610 Office in Linyi City, Shandong Province. In the three months since Chen took over this office, he has issued orders, held meetings and made arrangements to persecute Falun Dafa throughout the three districts and nine counties of Linyi City. Chen Changde has also pressured organizations where Falun Dafa practitioners work, issuing instructions to strictly monitor and persecute them. To those practitioners who are clarifying the truth to the public and saving sentient beings, Chen Changde will follow them tirelessly, doing everything within his power to bring about their arrests. Several Dafa practitioners from the Hedong District have been illegally detained by Chen. Since there were no struggles or even lawful reasons for the arrests, the practitioners should have already been released. However, to show his superiors how he excels at this job, and that he should be promoted to an even higher position, Chen Changde has even set up a private interrogation room for torturing Falun Dafa practitioners. He has hired local thugs and had them violently beat practitioners, including Yang Lifeng and Sun Qinghong. These practitioners were beaten so badly that they nearly lost their lives.

6. The crimes of village security chief, Zhang Jianwei of Lijiake Village, Yishui County, Shandong Province

Zhang Jianwei (male), 28 years old, lives in Lijiake Village, Yishui County, Shandong Province. As a village security chief, this official has been actively persecuting Falun Dafa practitioners in hopes of gaining the favor of his superiors. He has tortured Falun Dafa practitioners inhumanely, not even making an exception with his own mother, herself a practitioner. Just a few days ago, he again illegally abducted a 58-year-old practitioner named Mrs.Wang Yongme from the local village and took her to a detention center. Mrs. Wang was detained for 33 days and released only after paying a huge sum of money.

7. The crimes of Wu Dianchen, an official in Harbin City, Helongjiang Province

Since December 2002, Wu Dianchen, an official in Harbin City, Helongjiang Province, has held many meetings with various departments, to arrange the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. He has pressured organizations where practitioners work to set deadlines for them to submit to the so-called "Five Statements" (to give up cultivation, to slander Falun Gong and its founder, to expose and incriminate other practitioners, etc.). Those practitioners who refuse to submit the "Five Statements" are forced into brainwashing sessions and undergo cruel persecution. On several occasions, Wu Dianchen has ordered certain departments to illegally take at least three Dafa practitioners to the "610 Brainwashing Center" in Wuchang City, and has illegally restricted the personal freedom of those practitioners. The longest of these brainwashing sessions lasted for several months. Recently, Wu Dianchen has again issued orders to various departments to assign them new tasks of persecuting Dafa practitioners. He has issued the so-called "transformation ratio" (percentage of practitioners who renounce Falun Gong) as one of the criteria to evaluate the annual performance of various departments. Those departments that fail to force their Dafa practitioner employees to submit the "Three Statements" will lose the "target award" and the "spiritual civilization award" for each of their employees.

8. The persecution of practitioner Mr. Du Zhiguang

Falun Gong practitioner Du Zhiguang, from Guangdong Province, worked in the Monsoon Department of Huifeng Electronic Data Processing Inc. in Guangdong since the end of 2000. He always gave out truth clarification materials and CDs to his colleagues, most of whom offered support and understanding, and were against the persecution. Management within the company, however, were afraid that once the officials from the Chinese Communist Party learned of Mr. Du's activities, the company would be in an unfavorable situation. Because of this situation, Mr. Du was asked to quit his job. He was informed that if he didn't comply, his personal profile documents would be transferred to a certain public security department. Mr. Du had to submit his resignation by letter, and was illegally dismissed from the company in October of 2004.
