(Clearwisdom.net) Recently I had lunch with a professor who says that he stays in regular contact with the officials at our local consulate. I kidded him, saying, "Do you want your friends at the Consulate to know you are having lunch with a Falun Gong practitioner like me?" He responded, "You don't need to worry about the Consulate. None of them are personally against Falun Gong. They all consider themselves as just doing a job, and you shouldn't hold against them that they have this job they have to do. They all feel ashamed when they see you meditating outside the Consulate, and when I call them, they always make jokes about how ridiculous Jiang Zemin is."
I was surprised to hear this Professor discuss the Consulate officials in this way. Because he is not a practitioner, he could not understand what great harm is involved in these officials "doing their job" - harm done both to themselves and to others. But his remarks made me wonder if we practitioners could not find a more effective way to reach out to the officials in the Consulates and clarify the truth to them directly, letting them know that we view them with compassion, and with concern for their well-being.
