Facts about the Persecution
Mr. Lu Hongfeng is a retired cadre from the Bureau of Forced Labor in Lingyuan City, Liaoning province. When police falsely arrested his wife, he told the police how she had recovered from her illnesses by practicing Falun Gong. As a result of speaking those words, he too was unlawfully imprisoned at a local detention center for three months under the trumped up charge of "harboring a criminal."
Mr. Wang Hui, from Daliba Village, Guo County, Jilin Province, used to suffer from severe liver edema. He was unable to do any farm work. After learning Falun Gong in 1998, he became well and was able to do all kinds of physical work. The family finally was released from the stress caused by his serious medical condition. When the brutal persecution started, Wang Hui was forced into homelessness to avoid the persecution. His family was broken apart, and their farm was left deserted. They now once again have very hard lives, as they did in 1998.
The Jin's were a very happy family living on Chaihe Street in Tieling City, Liaoning Province. Since July 20, 1999, local public security bureau and police station members started arresting them in order to force them to give up Falun Gong. In November 1999, Ms. Jin Shuzi was held at a detention center for 30 days and later sentenced to a forced labor camp for two years, where she endured mental and physical torture. In July 2000, her husband was seriously ill, but the authorities at camp she was in refused to let her see her husband even though he was on his deathbed. Her husband ended up dying without seeing his wife. After she got out of the forced labor camp, she ran a small inn to make a living. However, the local police continued to harass her, so she had to sell the inn at a loss and leave the area to avoid the relentless harassment and persecution she had been subjected to.
Ms. Xiao Shuxiang from Chongqing City, Sichuan Province has benefited much from practicing Falun Gong. In May 2003, she mailed her relatives some articles about the preventive effects of Falun Gong regarding Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). Her letter was intercepted by the post office. She was then summoned many times by the Shimahe Police Station. Even her son was affected. On December 17, 2003, Ms. Xiao was sentenced to two years in a forced labor camp. In this way, a good family was torn apart.
On September 16, 2003, Chen, director of the local "610 Office*" at Taoxi Road, Bali Neighborhood, Chenghua District; his associates; and Zhang Guojun, Director of Tashuiqiao Community Service, abducted Ms. Qing Yubin, a Falun Gong practitioner from Chengdu City, Sichuan Provicne. Ms. Qing was then sent to the Xinjin County Brainwashing Center. There, she went on a hunger strike as soon as she arrived. She has become very weak and lost considerable weight.
* "610 Office" is a bureau specifically created by the Chinese government to persecute Falun Gong. It has absolute power over each level of administration in the Party, as well as over the political and judiciary branches.
