In October of 1999, my husband went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was arrested by the police. Local police brought him back and detained him for two months. Initially the police told me that my husband would be detained for only a month. Instead, his detention term was extended for another month because my husband refused to sign the "Three Statements" (1).

When his term ended, I went to the detention center to meet him. However, the police refused to release him and threatened me, saying that they did not care even if I sued them. Under this situation, some family members of other detained practitioners and I went to the Municipal Women's Federation to appeal. After listening to our complaints, the administrator of the woman's labor sympathized with us, but could not help us.

We then went to the "610 Office" (2) and asked them to release the practitioners whose detentions were illegally extended. The officials of the Political and Judiciary Committee told us that they know the practitioners are good people from the investigation they conducted from visiting with the detained practitioners' employers. Then they showed us a secret order from the provincial level of the Party, requiring the policemen to keep practitioners in prison and refuse visitation by family members if the practitioners refuse to give up their practice of Falun Gong. For that reason, my husband was kept longer in the detention center.

Two months later, around 6 o'clock in the evening, an official from the security office of my work place came to my home and asked me to go meet my husband. When we arrived at the detention center, the policeman told me my husband refused to sign the "Three Statements" and that I could sign it for him.

At that time my mind was not clear and I was moved by human notions. I was afraid that they would not release my husband, so I signed the statements. Afterwards I did not even feel uncomfortable about what I did. As the Fa-rectification is advancing rapidly and I continue to study the Fa, I now realize that what I did was very wrong. I did not make any statement until now because I was afraid to speak up.

Here I solemnly declare that all the statements I signed on behalf of my husband are invalid. I will also do better on the three things required by Master and advance diligently on the path of returning to my true self. I will do my best to make up and redeem the damage caused by my mistake.

1. Practitioners are coerced under brainwashing and torture to write these as proof that they have given up their belief. Created by the "610 Office," the three statements consist of a letter of repentance, a guarantee to never again practice Falun Gong, and a list of names and addresses of all family members, friends and acquaintances who are practitioners.
2. An agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.
