San Francisco, USA: SF Chronicle Reports on Falun Gong Practitioners' March

May 22, 2004 |

On May 20, San Francisco Chronicle reported on Falun Gong practitioners' parade from a spectator's point of view.

The report said that Ed Moose watched from his restaurant as Falun Gong/Falun Dafa proponents prepared two floats for a parade he says was about 800 strong, from Washington Square down Columbus Avenue and then through Chinatown. The report said that Falun Gong is a spiritual movement but is banned in China.

According to the report, the first float, says Moose, bore signs about "mind, body, spirit,'' as well as "truthfulness, compassion, tolerance." The second, aimed at representing Chinese repression, featured a young woman being hung from a contraption , a man tightly bound in a prone position, and a person in a cage. All three were receiving simulated beatings as part of the exhibit.

The report commented that abuse is no laughing matter. People sitting at outdoor cafes along Columbus Avenue were "dumbfounded" by the sight, Moose said.
