Lawsuit moves forward along with global lawsuits against Jiang
In March of this year, Professor Zhang Kunlun filed a lawsuit against Jiang Zemin for instigating the crime of torture. Since then, nearly 100,000 postcards from Canadian citizens calling for an end to the persecution and supporting the lawsuit against Jiang have been mailed to the Minister of the Department of Justice, the supreme prosecutor, Mr. Irwin Cotler.
At the same time, many members of Parliament (MP), university professors and student organizations have written to the Canadian Prime Minister to request Canada's support for the lawsuit against Jiang. Members of Parliament Scott Reid, Svend Robinson, Keith Martin, Libby Davies, Chuck Cadman, Reed Elley, Stockwell Day, David Kilgour, Rajam Jaffer, Andrew Teledi, and Raynell Andreychuk wrote to Mr. Cotler and requested his approval of Prof. Zhang's lawsuit against Jiang and his followers.
MP Reid said in his letter that between 2000 and 2001, Professor Zhang was arrested four times in China for his practice of Falun Gong and that he was tortured with electric batons, deprived of all freedoms, subjected to brainwashing and other forms of physical and mental torture. For Jiang's crimes, Mr. Reid said that the systemic persecution through the instigation of hatred, economic penalties, torture, and killing are crimes against humanity. At the end of his letter, Mr. Reid said that the judicial system in China did not provide any legal assistance to Falun Gong practitioners, but became a tool for Jiang to use in his attempt to eradicate Falun Gong. Those who commit crimes against humanity must receive justice.
On April 25, MP Martin, in his letter to the supreme prosecutor encouraged the Canadian government to sue Jiang and other persecutors according to the Criminal Code of Canada. Mr Martin said that all evidence clearly demonstrates the extent and depth of the persecution, which is a crime against humanity.
Jiang's persecution is genocide
From the Canadian parliament to the government of Ontario, from Toronto city hall to dozens of universities, even on streets of Canada, people have seen the symbolic trials of Jiang and his followers for their crimes in persecution of Falun Gong.
On the evening after the symbolic trial, the Chairman of the Canadian Falun Dafa Association, Mr. Xun Li said in an interview, "Jiang's group tortures and kills Falun Gong practitioners who believe Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance. In reality, Jiang is attempting to eradicate the human conscience. In the persecution of Falun Gong, Jiang forces people to choose between belief and material benefits, thus distorting humanity's conscience."
