Facts of the Persecution

--Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Wu Xingjun was a government employee working at the Luan County Technical Control Bureau of Tangshan City, Hebei Province. He was arrested on July 20, 1999, and sentenced to four years in prison on September 23, 1999. Upon ending his term in September 2003, the Luan County Police Station and the County "610 Office" (1) refused to release him, and instead sent him directly from Shijiazhuang Prison to the Luan County Detention Center. He was sent from the detention center directly to the Tangshan Brainwashing Center at the end of April 2004.

--Lawless Officials from Songlindian Town "610 Office" of Zhuozhou City, Hebei Province used a fake warrant to ransack Falun Dafa practitioners' homes, and then arrested them. Police officer Zhou Limin from the Songlindian Town Substation abducted many Falun Dafa practitioners, extorted their money, and sentenced practitioners to prison or labor camp terms. Vice Town Chair Li Lin is more vicious in torturing Falun Dafa practitioners. After practitioner Ms. Zhang Suhua and her daughter were arrested when going to Beijing to appeal, Li Lin inhumanely tortured the mother and daughter both physically and mentally. Ms. Zhang Suhua's buttocks were injured from his beating, and she had 10,000 yuan (2) extorted from her. In addition, her teenage daughter was stripped naked by the perpetrators.

--Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Zhao Cuilan is 59 and a resident of Xixindianzi Village, Zunhua City, Hebei Province. She went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa on September 26, 1999, and was detained in the Zunhua City Detention Center for 17 days, plus she had 2,000 yuan extorted from her. Ever since then, officials from the town and city often came to harass her or ransack her home. On September 3, 2000, her 90-year-old mother was frightened into a nervous breakdown by the police who came to ransack her home. On March 3, 2004, they ransacked her home again, and took her to the Zunhua City Police Station. Thirteen days later, her husband and her village head paid 1,000 yuan to bail her out, but she was sent to a brainwashing class in Zunhua City.

--In 1998, Mr. Li Shiwen, a worker in the Liaoning Provincial Fengcheng Petroleum Company who had won a merit award in Dandong City, had an accident at work and suffered a concussion, which made it hard for him to sleep. He fully recovered after beginning to practice Falun Dafa. On January 28, 2003, Li was reported while passing out truth-clarifying materials, and was taken to Fengcheng Prison. He was beaten up there because of practicing the Falun Dafa exercises, and was locked in a small cell for many days. After six months (in July 2003), he was sentenced to four years in prison, and sent to Dabei Prison in Shenyang City. At that time, he was extremely thin and had difficulty walking. He was transferred to Benxi Prison 15 days later, where he was subjected to inhumane treatment, such as being brutally beaten.

--Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Ma Yuxin is in her 40s, and was formerly an employee of the Power Exchange Plant in Fengcheng City, Liaoning Province. She has been practicing Falun Gong since 1998, and found the strength to keep on living after a life of sickness. She went to Beijing to appeal on October 8, 1999, was detained for 53 days, and had 3,000 yuan extorted from her. On February 14, 2000, Ms. Ma Yuxin went to Beijing to appeal again, and was abducted again, sentenced to one year at the Masanjia Labor Camp in Shenyang City. She was constantly harassed by police and "610 Office" workers after her term ended. Before the 16^th Party Congress in 2002, she tried to do some shopping at Wu-ai Square in Shenyang City, but was stopped by police at the Fengcheng train station. Police said she was going to Beijing to appeal, and detained her another 15 days.

--Falun Dafa practitioner, Mr. Li Yinjie won the merit award when he worked as a police officer in the Tongliao City Prison in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous District. He was detained for clarifying the truth about Falun Dafa, and has not been released.

--On June 15, 2004, police from Tongliao City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous District broke into Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Yang Chunlan's home when nobody was home, and ransacked her house. A large group of police officers abducted her from her home the next day.

(1) "610 Office": a national agency created to persecute and "reform" practitioners, while destroying Falun Dafa. It has absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.

(2) Yuan: the Chinese currency; the average monthly salary of an urban worker is 500 yuan.
