Facts of the Persecution
1. Jilin Women's Prison refused to release a practitioner for cancer treatment
Ms. Cong Guixian of Jilin Province was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment, without legal procedure, for practicing Falun Dafa. In 2001, Ms. Cong was arrested and detained in Jilin Woman's Prison, where she suffered long periods of physical and mental torture. During the day, the prison's reeducation unit put her through brainwashing sessions and kept her awake all night by constantly talking to her. As a result of this pressure and the long hours of sleep deprivation, Ms. Cong was totally worn down. On December 2, 2004, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, which required urgent treatment. Her family requested her release so that she could get immediate medical treatment, but the prison refused to sign her out.

2. Continual Torture at Heilongjiang Women's Prison
Ms. An Ling, of Xinmin Village, Xinxing Town, Shuangcheng City, Heilongjiang Province, was arrested for practicing Falun Dafa. Later she was sent to Heilongjiang Women's Prison, where her abuse continued. She was forced to sit for hours on benches, shocked with electric batons, had needles stabbed into her fingers, and was force-fed. In July 2003, under the instructions of the guard, two inmates put tape over Ms. An's mouth and the mouths of several other Falun Dafa practitioners, tied them up with their arms behind their back, gave them a severe beating and then left them on the cold ground overnight. The following day they were made to run around in a courtyard and beaten with half-filled plastic bottles or shocked with electric batons as they ran past the guards. That night the practitioners were not allowed to sleep. In March 2004, criminal inmates stripped off the practitioners' clothes. With their arms twisted behind their backs, they were tied up for four hours. Many times when they were force-fed, the feeding tubes punctured their nostrils and even their stomachs.

Ms. Fei was due for release in December 2004, but the camp extended her sentence for a further four months. On December 23, 2004, Ms. Fei and Ma Rujun, another practitioner from the camp, were handcuffed with their hands behind their backs for over two weeks for "disobedience." 4. Persecution of practitioners at Jinzhou Forced Labor Camp in Liaoning Province

Camp instructor Li Songtao, deputy team leaders Zhang Chunfeng and Yang Tinglun, and the chief team leader Bai Jinlong have used some of the cruelest methods imaginable when torturing practitioners. Often the victim is forced to sit in a cross-legged posture, with the legs tightly bound with a white sheet for many hours. In January 2004, for refusing to sign a certificate renouncing the practice of Falun Dafa, Zhang Xudong was beaten every day for several days. The camp officers often directed other prisoners to carry out the beatings as well. Under the guard's instruction, an inmate named Guo Youmin, who was serving a sentence for robbery, punched Mr. Guo Jinshan nine times on the throat, after which Mr.Guo was unable to close his jaw. The one who suffered the most was Liu Wansheng. After having his legs tied up in an awkward position for hours, Mr. Liu was totally disabled afterwards. His family demanded to have him released, but the camp authorities sent him to Masanjia Labor Camp for further punishment instead. Another practitioner, Cao Zhongyang, suffered a mental collapse as a result of the abuse.

5. Persecution of practitioners at Nanmusi Women's Forced Labor Camp
To punish the newly admitted practitioners who refused to cooperate with the Nanmusi Women's Forced Labor Camp management, a team specifically created to work on Falun Gong practitioners puts them under the supervision of a group of prisoners serving time for drug-related crimes. The practitioner is required to get permission from them for all daily activities, including eating, sleeping, and even using the restroom. Anyone who disobeys a command is punished, usually with a series of beatings or being forced to stand for long periods on one leg. The offender is deprived of the use of the bathroom and toilet facilities. In some unpleasant cases, she is force-fed with salt water. All hospital and medical expenses from injuries inflicted by the camp personnel are charged to the practitioner's account. An average of 17 hours of labor daily is normal. There are no rest days. Less than five hours of sleep are allowed each night. It is not unusual that a practitioner's term is extended even when she is due for release.
