(Clearwisdom.net) On August 7, 2005, the opening day of the Edinburgh International Art Festival, an open-air concert in Princes Street drew my attention. This was an unusual concert. An eye-catching banner hanging in the background told the audience the purpose of the concert: "Rescue the Orphans of Torture Victims in China." Though most of the performers were amateur, the audience was deeply touched by their appealing songs, elegant dancing and their sincerity. Among them were several young girls whose singing and dancing particularly drew attention.
A young girl was singing the solo, "Rainbow in My Dream." The song was composed by UK Falun Gong practitioners Tang Yun and Xuan Tong for the purpose of drawing attention to the plight of the orphaned children of Falun Gong practitioners.
Rainbow hanging on the sky after rain,
Is moving near and then away,
So near as to be under my feet,
So far away as to reach heaven.
Rainbow, Rainbow, so beautiful,
Standing on the rainbow is my smiling mom,
Surrounded by rings of light is my mom in glowing clothing,
Like a beautiful goddess in a painting.
Mother! Mother!
Stretching my arms to call you,
Your child misses you day and night.
I have so many words to tell you,
Tears flowing down my cheeks.
Rainbow hanging on the sky after rain,
Is moving near and then away,
So near as to be under my feet,
So far away as to reach heavens.
Rainbow, Rainbow, so beautiful,
Standing on the rainbow is my smiling mom,
With a group of goddesses dancing around her,
Lotus flowers descending down to the secular world.
Mother! Mother!
Don't be worried about me,
I will realize your unaccomplished wishes.
Wish that Rainbow would never leave,
That the rainbow-bridge would bridge heaven and earth forever.
Alice singing the solo, "Rainbow in My Dream." |
One of the most touching things about this performance was not only the lyrics, but also the singer's innocence and sincerity. During the interval of the performance, a brief interview was conducted with the singer. Her name is Alice, aged fifteen who has practiced Falun Gong for several years.
Reporter: What comes to your mind when singing this song?
Alice: I want to help the orphaned children in China. Their parents were tortured to death by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) because of their practice of Falun Gong. I hope people can help them. They are living in poverty and misery.
Reporter: You live a decent life here with loving parents. Could you imagine the hardships the orphans are facing?
Alice: Yes. Just because I have parents to love me, I can have the freedom of practicing Falun Gong. But they are parentless, being deprived of the freedom of practicing Falun Gong. That's why I could feel their hardship. These children used to have parents who loved them. If I were in China, I would be subjected to the same suffering as them because my parents also practice Falun Gong.
Reporter: Do you believe your performance and singing could help them?
Alice: Yes, I do. Because China's blockage of all information about the persecution of Falun Gong, many people are not aware of the suffering of these orphaned children. If people see our performance and listen to our singing, they will know about the persecution happening in China. Their kindness will have them help these poor orphans. I am using my singing to raise people's concern over the orphaned children in China.
Reporter: You will be leaving to perform another dance. Thanks for the interview.
Alice: You are welcome.
