Taiwan: County and City Council Resolutions Condemn Organ Harvesting in China (Photos)

October 25, 2006 |   By Guofeng

(Clearwisdom.net) On October 11, 2006, the Taichung City Council passed a resolution (Number 3-12 Health) condemning the Chinese Communist regime for persecuting Falun Gong practitioners and illegally trafficking human organs. As of this date, more than half of the 21 county and cities in Taiwan have signed the resolution, and others are in the process of co-signing it.

Since May 4, when the Chiayi County Council first passed the resolution condemning the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) organ harvesting and calling for an investigation of concentration camps in China, eleven councils, including those of Yilan County, Keelung City, Hualian County, Tainan City, Yunlin County, Pingtung County, Penghu County, Changhua County, Hsinchu County, Taichung City, have shown their support and have passed the resolution to condemn the CCP atrocity of live organ harvesting.

The Taichung City Council resolution discusses organ harvesting from Falun Gong practitioners detained in concentration camps and the subsequent cremation of the remains to destroy the evidence. The resolution called on the United Nations, international human rights organizations and the World Health Organization (WHO) to travel to China to investigate these accusations, and asks them to urge the Chinese Communist regime to stop such atrocities. Furthermore, the resolution requires the Taichung city government to educate residents about ethical issues and medical service quality issues involved in organ transplants in Mainland China.

At the beginning of March, after the exposure of the CCP's harvesting of organs from living Falun Gong practitioners, the "Coalition to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong in China" was established. Its objective is to conduct an independent investigation in China and overseas concerning the organ harvesting allegations. The coalition requested that the Chinese Communist regime allow access to all facilities, including labor camps, prisons, detention centers and hospitals where Falun Gong practitioners have been detained during the past seven years of persecution. Organizations, governments and individuals around the world are invited to take part in and support the investigation.

On July 6, former Canadian Member of Parliament, the Honorable David Kilgour and human rights lawyer David Matas released an independent report, following their two-month inquiry into allegations that vital organs are being seized from Falun Gong practitioners across China. In the report they looked at eighteen different types of information to prove or disprove the allegations. They concluded that "there has been and continues today to be large scale organ seizures from unwilling Falun Gong practitioners." During the past seven years of persecution, about 41,500 organs used in transplants might have come from Falun Gong practitioners.

Re-enactments outside the Taiwan Legislative Yuan, demonstrating the abhorrent crime of organ harvesting in China

During the recent seven months, many organizations in Taiwan have condemned this repugnant crime. On April 18, Mr. Lai Ching-Te, a member of the Taiwan Democratic Progressive Party and a member of the Legislative Yuan, proposed a bill. The bill is a directive to the Legislative Committee that they pass a resolution that asks the United Nations, international human rights organizations and the WHO to go to China to investigate the allegations. Furthermore the resolution will also call for the CCP to stop such actions and enact organ transplant laws that are transparent and can be monitored. Fifty-four members from different party committees co-signed the bill and the chair agreed to add it to the discussion at the meeting.

On September 28, Mr. Lai again proposed a bill during a Congressional session. The bill states that the Executive Yuan should allocate funds to educate the Taiwanese public about organ transplants. He believes that Taiwan's international image would be damaged if stolen organs from Mainland China are transplanted into Taiwanese people. He also asks the Legislative Yuan to invite Canadian parliament members or anyone else who has participated in the investigation of the Chinese Communist Party's harvesting of organs from living Falun Gong practitioners to visit Taiwan, so the Taiwanese people can learn the truth. 108 members of the Legislative Council have co-signed the bill.

Members of Local Government and County and City Councils Call for an End to the Persecution

In Taiwan, many members of county and city councils and township representatives have also condemned the CCP's abhorrent crime. On April 15, in Pingtung County, Legislative Council member Lin Yusheng, Pingtung County Council members Zeng Shilang and Su Yifeng, Linluo Town chairman Hsie Lichi and representatives Hsu Jin-tian and Hsie Guo-ying, Hsintian village leader Hsu Jin-quan, attended a meeting supporting an end to the persecution.

Also this year, the following council members called on the CCP to stop harvesting organs from living people: On April 21 -- Tainan City Council Vice Chair Kuo Hsin-liang, Council members Wang Ding-yu and Jiang Cang-yuan; on May 22 -- Keelung City Council members You Hsiang-yao, Chang Jin-huang, Liang Han-chi, Chan Chun-yang, Lan Min-huang, Chen Dong-cai, Lyu Mei-ling, Chang Fang-li, Song Wei-li, Chuang Jin-tian, Cheng Yi-hsin, Hsai Shi and others; and on June 22 -- Chinmen County Council member Hsai Shui-you, 28th Pingtung Council member Hsu Yi-feng, and others. On July 5, Yunlin County chair Su Chi-fen signed to support the "Coalition to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong in China."

Sharp Contrast Between Mainland China and Taiwan

From the Taiwanese condemnation of the CCP's organ harvesting crimes, we can see a sharp contrast between Mainland China and Taiwan.

Mainland Chinese police beating and arresting Falun Gong practitioners

In 1992, Falun Dafa was introduced to the general public. Falun Dafa became more and more popular in Mainland China because of its health benefits. According to a 1998 study, there were about 70 - 100 million Falun Gong practitioners in China. In July 1999, Jiang Zemin and his followers, due to jealousy and fear of loss of power because of Falun Gong's popularity, initiated the cruel persecution of Falun Gong. They publicized false and misleading information through the government controlled media. They incited hatred toward Falun Gong. They used illegal methods, confiscated Falun Gong practitioners' property, and fined and threatened them. They illegally arrested practitioners, put them in detention and prisons, subjected them to brainwashing, torture and injected unknown drugs into practitioners. The came up with many more methods to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. At least 2,976 practitioners have died from the persecution. Thousands and thousands of practitioners from across the country were illegally detained, put into forced labor camps, fired from their jobs, forbidden to go to school, made homeless, disabled, and their families were destroyed.

In contrast, in Taiwan where traditional Chinese culture is still practiced, the situation is totally different. For more than 10 years, the number of Falun Dafa practitioners in Taiwan has increased from several hundred to more than 300,000 and the number is still growing. There are nearly 1,000 practice sites, even as fas as Green Island. Taiwan has welcomed Falun Dafa, as it benefits the people and country. Local governments witnessed the results of Falun Gong purifying people's hearts and improving people's health. President Chen Shui-bian, Vice President Lu Hsiu-lien, Premier Hsieh Chang-ting, President of the Legislative Yuan Wang Jin-Pyng, National Party President Lien Chan, Taipei City Mayor Ma Ying-Jeou, as well as many other city mayors, district officials and legislative committee members have expressed their support of Falun Gong.

"Whoever has virtue, must have neighbors, and must not be lonely." (Confucius) The Taiwanese people's condemnation of the CCP shows that more and more people recognize how truly wicked the CCP is. The storm will stop. The long night will end. Although the persecution is not over yet, brave Falun Dafa practitioners have followed the principle of Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance and have prevailed. Looking back over the past seven years, it was only a bad storm. The truth will sooner or later be completely revealed to the entire world. We are now more confident than in the past: the CCP's collapse is approaching. This cruel persecution is coming to an end.
