(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Liu Xianyan, a cadre of Guangshui City Planning Committee and a Falun Dafa practitioner, lived in a city government dormitory. After he started cultivating according to Falun Gong's principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance," he worked hard and took his job very seriously. He took care of the majority of written work for the unit and was well-trusted by his superiors and colleagues. Mr. Liu and his wife respected one another, and they had an intelligent and lovable daughter. Falun Dafa brought his family peace and happiness.
In July 1999, former dictator Jiang Zemin started the persecution of Falun Gong. At that time, lies and violence targeted toward Falun Dafa and Falun Gong practitioners were everywhere in China. Practitioners and even those who were familiar with Falun Dafa stood up to clarify the truth and expose the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)'s lies that slandered Falun Gong.
In early 2002, when Mr. Liu was clarifying the truth and exposing the CCP's lies to the students at the Guangchang Middle School, he was arrested by personnel from the 610 Office and imprisoned for four months. In September 2002, the 610 Office personnel, fearing that he might file an appeal on behalf of Falun Gong to higher authorities, again arrested Mr. Liu without any legal documentation and detained him at Guangshui City Detention Center for another four months.
As a result of this harassment, Mr. Liu suffered a mental collapse. His wife, unable to cope with his mental condition, later divorced him.
With the kind help and care of other practitioners, Mr. Liu's mental condition gradually improved. In 2004, he married Ms. Liu Yang, a practitioner who had left her hometown to avoid being persecuted. By that time, his mental condition was completely normal.
On October 30, 2005, Zhang Huazhou, head of the Guangshui City 610 Office and chief of the National Security Team from the Guangshui City Public Security Bureau, police officer Tao Zhigang, and others broke into Mr. Liu's home and arrested his wife. Director Fu Lihua from Mr. Liu's work unit and personnel from the Guangshui City 610 Office detained Mr. Liu in the Wuhan City Brainwashing Center.
In order to force practitioners to give up their belief in Falun Dafa, officials in the brainwashing center used various cruel methods to torture practitioners both mentally and physically. Peng Hanze, a former Guangshui City practitioner, was well-known for his kindness and honesty before he was taken to the brainwashing center. Since being "reformed" by the CCP in the brainwashing center, he has become a totally different person; his moral standards and behavior have deteriorated terribly.
Under the intense pressure in the brainwashing center, Mr. Liu wrote the Three Statements against his will. After returning home from the brainwashing center, he realized that to be a good person with a high moral standard was not wrong and that to have his own beliefs was a right entrusted to Chinese citizens by the Constitution. Therefore, he solemnly declared that he would continue to practice Falun Dafa and that his previous statement was nullified. Personnel from the Guangshui City 610 Office refused to allow Mr. Liu to return to his job. On July 5, 2006, Peng Hanze and two other officials from the city 610 Office threatened to dismiss Mr. Liu's from his job if he didn't give up practicing Falun Gong. The constant threats and harassment caused Mr. Liu to have another mental breakdown, which the 610 Office used to try to convince people that Mr. Liu had become insane from practicing Falun Gong.
The case of Mr. Liu is only one small example of the multitude of persecutory acts the 610 Office carries out against kindhearted people. Yingshan District practitioner Ms. Zhang Daju and her husband made a living by selling food on the streets. They were able to support their two children so that they could go to school, and they also had some savings. After the CCP started to persecute Falun Gong in 1999, one of her relatives who worked for the city's Public Security Bureau led personnel to Ms. Zang's home. They arrested Ms. Zhang and her husband and took them to the Guangshui City Detention Center just because they had a portrait of Falun Gong's founder and a Falun Emblem hanging on their wall in their home. Personnel from the 610 Office confiscated Ms. Zhang's family's belongings many times. Ms. Zhang and her husband were also repeatedly imprisoned and fined. Unable to bear the continuous persecution, Ms. Zhang suffered a mental collapse. She couldn't take care herself and did not have enough money to see the doctor. Her children had difficulties in school, and yet another family was torn apart by the Chinese Communist Party. Once again, the 610 Office fabricated lies indicating that Ms. Zhang became insane because she practiced Falun Gong.
Yingshan District practitioner Ms. Huang Yun went to Beijng twice to appeal for Falun Gong. When she told the authorities about the many benefits practitioners had gained from practicing Falun Gong, the appeals office turned into a police station that madly arrested and beat people. While appealing for Falun Gong for the second time in Beijing, Ms. Huang was beaten by the police until her entire head was swollen. After returning to her hometown, she was imprisoned by the Guangshui City 610 Office and the Public Security Bureau officials. During her long imprisonment, she was brutally tortured, both mentally and physically, causing her to become mentally disordered. Personnel from the 610 Office once again fabricated lies, claiming that Ms. Huang became insane by practicing Falun Gong.
