The practitioners refused, and Zhou designated the heads of the criminal inmates, Liu Guofu and Zou Chunguo, to beat practitioner Mr. Guo Jun. They hit and kicked him and even used wooden blocks to beat him. After the beating, Mr. Guo could not straighten his back, and he found it difficult to walk. They detained another practitioner in a small solitary room for refusing to work.
In the afternoon, in the living area after work, Zou Chunguo demanded that all the practitioners work extra shifts at night. When the practitioners asked why, Zou beat them. Prison Director Zhang Shumin witnessed the barbarity. He sent Zou and Yang Ming to the Riot Squad. The head of the seventh ward went to the Riot Squad to plead for the criminals, and Zou was released without being punished.
In Hulan Prison, they have created a so-called "Activity Month" for punishing the bullies of the camp. On October 23 they were ordered to go to the office, where they faced verbal abuse. Guards Liu Kai (a mentor) and Chen Ziliang (a team leader) beat Qi Tangyin. Mr. Qi's lip was cut and bleeding, and his forehead had two bruises. On around October 10, Li You, the instructor of the tenth ward in Hulan Prison, and his assistant, Liu Jun, a team mentor, designated criminal inmates to forcibly brainwash Mr. Zhang Chengbin and torture him with all kinds of methods.
