Four women who said they were imprisoned in China for following a spiritual discipline asked the Chino Hills City Council on Tuesday for a resolution condemning the persecution of the Falun Gong movement.
In tears, the women testified to the hard labor and torture they endured in prisons and labor camps.
Bin Li of Rowland Heights said the Communist Party began a brutal crackdown on the movement in 1999, resulting in hundreds of thousands being placed in labor camps, jails and mental hospitals.
She described Falun Gong as a peaceful meditation rooted in the Chinese culture, first introduced to the public in China in 1992. Ms. Li distributed a human rights report on allegations that Falun Gong practitioners are victims of live organ harvesting throughout China.
She said a growing number of cities have passed resolutions condemning the persecution, and she hoped Chino Hills would do the same. Ms. Li said Falun Gong practitioners are going from city to city to raise awareness and ask for resolutions.
