Today's report relates persecution incidents that involve 26 cities or counties in 10 provinces. One hundred and twenty-nine Falun Gong practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during detention, and at least 19 practitioners were illegally arrested.

1. [Bazhong City, Sichuan Province] Mr. Zhao Guoji Suffers from Severe Disease, But Is Still Being Held
Personnel from the Bazhou District Police Department in Bazhong City arrested 61-year-old Mr. Zhao Guoji and put him in the district's detention center on March 17, 2007. He was interrogated off and on until August and then sentenced to five years in prison. Mr. Zhao was taken to Leshan City No.5 Prison in Sichuan Province in October 2007.
During the time that Mr. Zhao was being interrogated, doctors at the Bazhong City People's Hospital diagnosed him with a bone tumor and hypertension. He should have been bailed out for hospitalization, but Bazhou District Court agents sentenced him to five years in prison. They even ordered his family to pay the physical examination fee of 10,000 yuan.
Many practitioners are still being held at the Leshan City No.5 Prison.

Personnel from the Zhucaoying Police Station arrested a practitioner surnamed Li in Funing County, Qinhuangdao City the morning of January 11, 2008. Li's family requested Li's release in the police station, but they were told that Li had been transferred to the Domestic Security Division.
4. [Jiaozhou City, Shandong Province] Judicatory Bureau Officials Prohibit Lawyer from Defending Falun Gong Practitioners
Mr. Liu Liang, 24 years old, from Zhangying Town, Jiaozhou City, died in June 2007 as a result of torture at the hands of 610 Office agents. Mr. Liu's family hired a lawyer and wrote a petition to appeal. Jiaozhou City Police Department deputy chief Wang Yong ordered Qingdao City Judicatory Bureau officials to prohibit a lawyer's involvement. The officials forbade lawyers from accepting Falun Gong cases.

5. [Cangzhou City, Hebei Province] Ms. Li Wenjun Arrested
About ten officers from the Cangzhou City Domestic Security Division and from the Guanting Township Police Station broke into Ms. Li Wenjun's home and arrested her at 1:00 a.m. on October 7, 2007. They ransacked her home and confiscated a CD player, a brand new laptop computer, an MP3 player, some Dafa books, and truth clarification materials.
Ms. Li was held in the township's police station for a day and then transferred to the city's detention center. The police incited inmates to beat her. They handcuffed her to metal tubing and abused her, so Ms. Li staged a persecution-protest hunger strike.
6. [Hebei Province] Eighty-seven Practitioners Being Held at the Hebei Province Women's Forced Labor Camp's No. 2 Division
Eighty-seven practitioners are presently being held in the Hebei Province Women's Forced Labor Camp's No. 2 Division. They are divided into nine groups. Ms. Zhang Huiling from Xushui City had her term extended by three months. She had been transferred from the Baoding City Forced Labor Camp. Ms. Zhang Yun and Ms. Qiu Liying used to be held at the Shijiazhuang City Forced Labor Camp's No. 5 Division and are presently being held at the No.1 (or No.3) Division. Ms. Zhang is extremely weak.
Generally speaking, two wardens are assigned to monitor a newly arrested practitioner. Practitioners are under surveillance no matter what they do, including using the restroom and eating. They usually sleep on a hard board in storage rooms and are forbidden to do the Falun Gong exercises. Ms. Wen Guoye from Fuping County was made to sit for 19 hours and was deprived of food.
7. [Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province] Supplemental Information Regarding the Arrest of Mr. Li Zhanwen
Personnel from the Tumu Town Police Station arrested Mr. Li Zhanwen from Tumu Town, Huailai County, Zhangjiakou City, at 9:00 p.m. on January 10, 2008. The arrest happened when Mr. Li posted Falun Gong materials. Police confiscated a laptop computer from him and ransacked his home. They confiscated a VCD player, three Dafa books, a printer, and two boxes of white paper. Mr. Li was sentenced to 15 days of criminal detention and is presently being held at the Ertaizi Detention Center.

8. [Tianjin] Police Arrest Mr. Liu Ruicheng
Police followed and arrested Mr. Liu Ruicheng from Yishang Village, Niudaokou Town, the Baodi District in Tianjin. They ransacked his home and confiscated a computer and a printer.

10. [Wei County, Hebei Province] Ms. Ruan Haoying Arrested
Police officer Ping Zihui, female, from the Wangcheng Town Police Station in Wei County arrested Ms. Ruan Haoying on the street and took her to the police station on January 9, 2008. She got Ms. Ruan's house key and ransacked the place, confiscated all of Dafa books, and extorted 10,000 yuan from Ms. Ruan's family. Officer Ping Zihui eventually released Ms. Ruan.

11. [Zunhua City, Hebei Province] Mr. Zhang Zhuming and Ms. Liu Guilan Arrested
Mr. Zhang Zhuming from Xiayu Village, Niangniangzhuang Township, Zunhua City, explained the facts about Falun Gong to Wang Xiangtian and persuaded him to denounce the Communist Party, but Wang Xiangtian reported him. Personnel from the township's police station arrested Mr. Zhang and ransacked his home.
Ms. Liu Guilan from the same village was also arrested and her home was ransacked. Police confiscated some Dafa books and materials.
Police interrogated Mr. Zhang and asked him for the source of his Falun Gong materials. Mr. Zhang defied them, but had 1,000 yuan extorted from him and was then released.

12. [Nantong City, Jiangsu Province] Mr. Zhang Jian Arrested
Mr. Zhang Jian from Northwestern China works in Nantong City. 610 Office agents arrested him in November 2007, but we have had no information about him since.
13. [Shandong Province] Recent Information Regarding Ms. Guo Jiahua
Ms. Guo Jiahua, 50 years old, from Tianxianhe Town, who worked in the Shengli Oil Field, was arrested in December 2007. She was held in Hekou Detention Center for 20 days and then taken to the Shandong Province Women's No. 2 Forced Labor Camp in December 2007. Ms. Guo was sentenced to one year and four months of forced labor and is presently being held at the Wangcun Forced Labor Camp.
14. [Zhaoyuan City, Shandong Province] Ms. Teng Yingfen Arrested
Four officers, including Li Jianguang from the Zhaoyuan City National Security Division and from the 610 Office, arrested Ms. Teng Yingfen the morning of January 12, 2008.

17. [Guizhou Province] Supplemental Information about the Persecution of Mr. Li Donghong
Personnel from the Dafang County Police Department ransacked Mr. Li Donghong's home and confiscated some Dafa books, a TV, and a DVD player, total worth 10,000 yuan on July 20, 1999. They arrested Mr. Li toward the end of 1999 and held him for nearly a year. Two months after his release, toward the end of 2000, police arrested him again and sentenced him to three years of forced labor. He was held at Zhongba Farm and released in December 2003. The police often harassed him, so he decided to live in exile. Mr. Li was arrested again in September 2007 and is presently being held in Baihuashan Detention Center in the Yunyan District, Guiyang City.
18. [Laiyang City, Shandong Province] Mr. Wu Zhangguo and Ms. Zhou Yuhua Sentenced to Forced Labor
Personnel from the Laiyang City Police Department arrested Mr. Wu Zhangguo and Ms. Zhou Yuhua before the 2008 New Year Day and sentenced them to one year of forced labor.
19. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Mr. Yang Mingjiu Sentenced to One Year in Prison
Officer Zhang Jian from the Weixing Street Police Station arrested Mr. Yang Mingjiu on March 8, 2007. Mr. Yang is presently being held in Weizigou Forced Labor Camp in Changchun City. Police denied his family visits because he did not give up Falun Gong. It was heard that Mr. Yang's face was bruised and one of his ribs was fractured.

Mr. Wei Baoquan from the Fuxing District, Handan City, was recently sentenced to one year of forced labor.

21. [Pengzhou City, Sichuan Province] Police Relentlessly Beat Several Practitioners
Ms. Jin Liangfang, Ms. Qiu, Ms. Zhang Jiaqiong, and Ms. Luo Wanxiu from Pengzhou City were arrested, and personnel from the Guihua Police Station brutally beat them. When Ms. Zhang's family went to visit her, they were beaten as well.
22. [Yongxing County, Hunan Province] Mr. Li Jianqun and Mr. Liu Tiegua Sentenced to Forced Labor; Ms. Cao Linying to Be Sentenced
Mr. Li Jianqun, Mr. Liu Tiegua ,and Ms. Cao Linying from Yongxing County were arrested in the Baisha Mine Bureau's Xiangyong Coal Mine the night of September 7, 2007. Mr. Li and Mr. Liu were sentenced to one year of forced labor and taken to Xinkaipu Forced Labor Camp in Changshan City and Baimalong Forced Labor Camp in Zhuzhou City, respectively. Four months after Ms. Cao's incarceration, personnel from the Yongxing County 610 Office, from the county's Procuratorate, and from the county's court will hold a hearing for her the morning of January 11, 2008.

23. [Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province] Ms. Chen Xiaojuan and Ms. Wu Jingjun Arrested
Personnel from the Tangshan Police Station in Nanchang City arrested Ms. Chen Xiaojuan and Ms. Wu Jingjun from their homes and took them to the Jiangxi Province Women's Forced Labor Camp at 9:00 a.m. on January 8, 2008.
The two practitioners were previously arrested on December 7, 2007, and held in the city's No.1 Detention Center but were released ten days later.
24. [Weihai City, Shandong Province] Policeman Wang Hongjia Often Persecutes Practitioners
Officer Wang Hongjia from the Gaoqu Police Department in Weihai City has often persecuted practitioners since 2005. He put Ms. Jiang Cui in Zibo City Women's Forced Labor Camp in 2005. She is still being held there. Wang Hongjia and six policemen ransacked Mr. Zhang Guodong's home in July 2007. They arrested Mr. Zhang and Mr. Dong Huanxiang and ransacked their homes on October 11, 2007. They also ransacked Ms. Jiao Guichun and Mr. Bi Jiankai's homes. Mr. Zhang and Mr. Dong have been sentenced to forced labor. Ms. Jiao's whereabouts are unknown.

25. [Shouguang City, Shandong Province] Three Practitioners Arrested
Mr. Liu Fude, Mr. Cai Rentang, and Mr. Meng Xiangming have been sentenced to forced labor and are presently being held at a forced labor camp in Guanzhuang Township, Zhangqiu City.
26. [Benxi City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Gao Yudong Arrested
Police arrested 28-year-old Mr. Gao Yudong and a woman practitioner at 10:00 p.m. on January 10, 2008. Personnel from the Xinlitun Police Station ransacked Mr. Gao's home and confiscated a computer, a printer and some other items. Mr. Gao is presently being held at the Benxi City Detention Center.

28. [Pulandian City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Teng Wenzhi Is Still Being Held at the Pulandian City Detention Center
Ms. Teng Wenzhi was arrested on July 3, 2007, and is presently being held in the Pulandian City Detention Center. Pulandian City Court agents held a trial for Ms. Teng on December 10, 2007, and attempted to sentence her to forced labor. Ms. Teng defied them, and they did not reach a verdict.

29. [Tangshan City, Hebei Province] Ms. Wang Ruixia Sentenced to One Year of Forced Labor
Personnel from Liyuan Police Station deceived Ms. Wang Ruixia into going to the police station the afternoon of January 9, 2008. They tried to coerce her into writing a statement to give up Falun Gong practice. Ms. Wang refused, so the police sentenced her to one year of forced labor, to be served in Kaiping City Forced Labor Camp.
