(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Wang Weidong was a law professor employed by the Law Department of Jilin University. During a conference trip to Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province, in May 1994, she read China Falun Gong (Revised Edition) and was immediately impressed by the profound principles. She thus began to walk on her path of cultivation. She attended two of Master's nine-day lecture courses in Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province, and Guanzhou City, Guangdong Province.
At the time, Ms. Wang had two illnesses. After taking up cultivation, and especially after attending the two nine-day lectures series, her illnesses vanished. By cultivating her character, any desires for fame and profit lost their urgency. She stopped competing with others during evaluations for salary and promotion in the department. She changed from being aggressive to being kind, and people began to respect her even more.
Due to having attended Master's lectures in person, her work as a teacher at Jilin University, plus being enthusiastic and very capable, she became one of the general volunteer assistants with the Jilin Province Falun Dafa Center. She strictly disciplined herself, and often said to others, "Dafa gives me everything, I came for this Dafa."
After the persecution started on July 20, 1999, the police closely monitored all of her activities. They followed her, tapped her phone, and videotaped her. Even when she went on a family trip out of town, the police accompanied her all the way. Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials tried to force her to write articles that slandered Falun Dafa, but she absolutely refused. Instead, she clarified the truth to the officials, and told them about the fundamental changes that Falun Dafa had brought her. She also wrote letters stating that the persecution was wrong and violated the law.
Around 2001, Ms. Wang brought letters to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong at the National People's Congress, the Political Consultation Conference, and the State Council Appeals Office. She was arrested by officers from Jilin Province Domestic Security Division, Changchun City Domestic Security Division, and Jilin University Security Office. They took her back to the south campus of Jilin University to interrogate her. She took this opportunity to talk about her cultivation experience, the benefits Falun Dafa had brought to society, and how, from a legal standpoint, the persecution violated the law. Everyone there thought that what she said made sense and decided to let her go.
Because of her prominent position and social influence as a law professor, the CCP mainly used secretive ways to mistreat her. The Jilin Province 610 Office and Changchun City Police Department listed her as a special "target," mounted a hidden camera on the building opposite her apartment, and established a "service department" right by her apartment gate. These harassing tactics were a huge mental burden for Ms. Wang and her family. Even in such a harsh environment, Ms. Wang still constantly clarified the truth to people with wisdom.
After dealing with the intense pressure of the persecution for a long time, Ms. Wang's doctor diagnosed her with breast cancer in July 2006. Her family took her to the hospital when she could no longer take care of herself. Even in the hospital, she was still under surveillance, and contact with her friends and family was restricted. She died on November 5, 2006, at the age of 66.
Normally, prominent law professors from Jilin University would be given a decent funeral. But the police kept her death a secret and did not allow anyone to acknowledge that she had died. Even when someone found out, the person would be prevented from paying a memorial visit. One of her university classmates who works in the Agriculture Ministry came all the way from Beijing to visit her in the hospital, but she was not allowed to visit and had to return to Beijing without seeing Ms. Wang.
