(Clearwisdom.net) I am a Falun Gong practitioner from Qiqihar City, Heilongjiang Province. Before I learned the practice, I had congenital tuberculosis and was very intolerant; I detested how people lied their way through to protect personal interests in society. I read Zhuan Falun when I was 30 and realized how precious the Fa was. I started to cultivate and tried to be a good person by following the principle of "Truth, Compassion, Tolerance." As my character improved, my health improved and my temper was gone.
On July 20, 1999, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started the nationwide persecution of Falun Gong. I went to Tiananmen Square in Beijing to appeal. Hubin Police Station officers of Qiqihar City arrested me and put in in the Qiqihar Forced Labor Camp for a year.
I was imprisoned in the camp in December 1999. On December 21, guard Li Weijie and two others stripped my jacket off me and wrapped a rope tightly around me with my arms behind my back. My circulation was cut off and my body got numb. After a long time they took off the rope and started pulling my arms two different ways. That caused excruciating pain. They repeated this torture. There wasn't any heat in the room and all the windows were open. I had no jacket and my hands were shackled behind my back to the bed in a room that used to be for keeping chickens for three days straight. I had to squat down the whole time and wasn't allowed to sleep.
In November 2000, while several practitioners and I were doing the Falun Gong meditation, some prisoners assaulted us and dragged us off our beds. The next day, guard Zhang Zhijie locked me in solitary confinement. I had to squat with my hands cuffed behind my back for 10 consecutive days.
Due to the effort of overseas Falun Gong practitioners to rescue practitioners in China, the camp started to gradually release practitioners whose sentences had been extended. I was released on October 16, 2001, ending my one year and 11 months of illegal imprisonment.
After I got home, the Hubin and Wenhualu Police Stations still sent officers to harass me. I was forced to leave home to avoid further persecution in April 2002. I wanted to stay with a practitioner who lived in Fulaerji District. The person I asked for directions from reported me to the police. Officer Li Guangming and another officer from the Xingfu Police Station in Fulaerji arrested me. They took me to the police station and tortured me. They handcuffed me, pulled my hair, beat me, burned my hand with a lighter, and shouted at me. They threatened me with a knife, wanting me to betray the practitioner I had contact with. I refused to cooperate and tried to tell them the truth about Falun Dafa. They put me in the Qiqihar Forced Labor Camp for three years!
In May 2003, the guards put me in solitary confinement, trying to force me to sign statements to renounce Falun Gong. They continued to slander Falun Dafa in front of me. After 74 days, I was released from solitary confinement and my black hair had turned gray. I was put in the same cell with Xu Hongmei, who was later tortured to death by Yi Zhanhui from the Qingyun Police Station.
On February 16, 2004, the camp intensified the torture of practitioners in the "Ice-breaking Project." After a comprehensive planning, all the guards in the camp took part. Head guard Zhang Zhijie ordered all the other guards to blindfold all practitioners. Wang Mei read aloud words that slandered Falun Gong. Later, two people took me to the fourth floor where there was a group of male guards. Political Commissioner Wang Yufeng yelled at me, warning me to give up Falun Gong. I refused to cooperate and was taken to another room. I was handcuffed and had to squat all day. At night I was restrained on an iron chair. I went on a hunger strike but they force fed me and put an unknown substance in the food. My internal organs hurt so excruciatingly that I thought I would die. I couldn't move because I had to squat all the time. I gave in and renounced my belief.
My mind collapsed after that. I became incoherent. I often lost it when I was doing hard labor. When I ran into anyone I yelled, "Why can't I say Falun Dafa is good?!" I questioned the guards and the authorities, but they ignored me. My will was destroyed and I was exhausted. They extended my sentence for four more months.
By the end of 2004, the camp had a meeting with everyone present. Director Xiao said on the stage that over 98 percent of practitioners had renounced Falun Gong and that no one had died. I stood up and yelled, "I didn't renounce my belief!" Director Xiao extended my sentence for three more months.
In July 2005, my husband and children came to the camp to take me home. Seeing that my hair was all gray and I looked beat up, tired, and incoherent, my husband exclaimed, "What happened to my wife?!"
Though I am home, my husband, children, and relatives worry that the CCP police might come at any time to harass us.
I would like to appeal to all human rights organizations in the world, including the Coalition to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong, and to people of conscience: "Please help Falun Gong practitioners in China to end this persecution. I don't want to be treated differently; I only want to practice our belief peacefully and openly."
