He felt that the Chinese Spectacular not only brought visual enjoyment to the audience, but was an expression of rich emotion. He said, "I think the show was colorful, with concise story-lines, encompassing love and rich inner meaning. It's delightful to see such beautiful dancers. I also liked the magnificent drums. The drum beats expressed the scene of a battle, and that performance was full of masculinity."
Mr. Gielen learned much of the deeper meaning of Chinese culture through the show, "For example, I didn't know about the Manchu court ladies. Also the content on ethnic culture, such as their expression of feelings through dance. At the same time I came to know about Falun Gong. 'Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance' is very important to the whole world. It creates a fair and trustworthy world. So I very much enjoyed the entire show."
Mr. Gielen said he would like to record the Chinese Spectacular. "Actually I would like to record this experience, and portray the beauty brought to New Zealand by the Divine Performing Arts. It was just fantastic."
