(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Qi Like, a Falun Gong practitioner who once studied in Finland, was arrested secretly in September 2006 at his Shenzhen dwelling by plainclothes police. In June 2007 he was secretly sentenced to three years and is now in Beijiang Prison in Shaoguan, Guangdong Province.
According to sympathetic people, Mr. Qi Like refused to write the Three Statements or the Guarantee Statement. He clarified the truth to the police and those he came into contact with in the prison and thus became a "celebrity" in Beijiang Prison. Qi Like is being kept in handcuffs and shackles and imprisoned in solitary confinement. He is suffering greatly. People who have seen him recently said he looks terrible.
Mr. Qi Like, 30 years old, was originally from Jiangxi. He obtained Dafa while studying in Finland in 1997. After his graduation in 2002, he returned to China and was engaged in foreign economic and international trade business in Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province.
On the evening of September 23, 2006 he was secretly arrested at his Shenzhen dwelling by Shenzhen plainclothes police. The police took turns pressuring and questioning him, trying to force him to "confess." He was prohibited from sleeping and was questioned under duress 40 times.
Only after he was missing for two months were his parents informed by Shenzhen police, but his company was not aware he was missing until now.
In June 2007, Mr. Qi was secretly sentenced to three years. He was charged with using the Internet to generate and distribute "illegal" Falun Gong information. However, he could not, in fact, have accessed the Internet from his residence no Internet service had been installed. Qi Like and his parents, who came a long way to join him, refused to accept the charge and appealed. Shenzhen Intermediate Court dared not hold a second trial, rejected the appeal with a written rebuttal, and upheld the original sentence.
Qi Like is the only child in the family. His parents took a long vacation, painstakingly waited in Shenzhen for a year, running in all directions to appeal for help, and spent a large amount of money hiring an attorney. The situation has been pitiful in the extreme and there have been no results.
Initially Mr. Qi was supposed to be sent to Shenzhen Prison, but Shenzhen Prison officials claimed that he was a political prisoner and they did not have the personnel to deal with that type of inmate, so they refused to admit him. He was then taken to Shaoguan Beijiang Prison located in Yuebai.
