(Clearwisdom.net) Before I express my thoughts about the celebration of World Falun Dafa Day, I need to mention something else. Recently I read a book by an author in Mainland China entitled, Hidden Code of Conduct: The Real Games in Chinese History.
The author mentions that in Guoyang County, Anhui Province, there are dozens of villages producing and processing fake black mushrooms, and the scale of the business is significant. However, the producers of fake black mushrooms speak confidently and forcibly: "There are corrupt officials everywhere who obtain wealth by cheating and by force. Ordinary people who try to support their family by making some fake products are much more moral than those wearing uniforms and caps [e.g. police, military force] who rob and seize in broad daylight."
Faced with such "open and above-board" cheating, the author is powerless as to how to dissuade these people from acting this way. It is surprisingly easy in present-day China to find any excuse to legitimize one's actions for benefiting oneself at the expense of others; and yet it is difficult to come up with compelling reasons to counter such actions. Saying that people doing this would create bad karma and would go to hell would be considered superstition, an old wife's tale or a myth, something the media is going all out to oppose. If such a concept is attacked and cracked down on, then what? What is left in broad daylight?
Our ancestors have left us with a saying, warning people, "Good will be rewarded with good, and evil met with retribution; it is not that there is no consequence, but that the time is not yet right." However, in the eyes of the atheist Chinese Communist Party (CCP), such sayings are all superstitions that harm people. Criticizing the cause-effect theory constitutes an important part of the CCP's "respect for science and doing away with superstition." The author of Hidden Code of Conduct said, "If the principle that wrongdoing will suffer due punishment extends to the netherworld and to after one's death, then at least those evildoers will feel a bit uneasy. If you say this concept is no good and criticize it, then what is left will be a much worse and reckless concept: profiting at other people's expense; it does not do one any good by not benefiting at the expense of others; it does not do one any good by suffering losses for the benefit of others. Such concepts encourage people to do harm to others. If you try to root out the last bit of concern in the hearts of the evildoers and yet you are unable to establish mechanisms to prevent evil conduct in everyday life, then, what are you doing?"
Indeed, what is the CCP doing? Even Western journalists stationed in China have experienced the phenomenon in China today. An article in the Wall Street Journal pointed out that most Chinese people have no [spiritual] beliefs, and if they do, their belief would be to "make money," and for making money they would stop at no evil. I remember in our political classes in the past, when it came to discussing "decadent capitalism," one thing that was despised was "money worship" in Western society. Isn't money worship the very belief of the Chinese people nowadays?
Internet blogs in China have discussed a hot topic - what the Chinese people's moral bottom line is, which is really rather satirical. China, a nation with five thousand years of civilization, in the past known as a neighbor country with propriety and honesty, is now reduced to such a state - the people's concern is the bottom line of morals. It is horrible that the ruling CCP has destroyed the Chinese people's morals and degenerated their thinking to such an extent, especially in the last twenty or thirty years, all under the window-dressing of economic development.
The heavens have given the Chinese people a chance. On May 13, 1992, Mr. Li Hongzhi disseminated Falun Dafa [also known as Falun Gong] to the public for the first time in Changchun. That day has now been recognized as World Falun Dafa Day. Falun Dafa, based on the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance has enabled people to gain good health and uplift their morals. In this corrupt world, Falun Dafa's principles have attracted a great number of people. Within a short period of a few years, the number of people worldwide practicing Falun Dafa has increased to tens of millions. Falun Dafa was not disseminated for maintaining morals in the human world; however, the practice has had a tremendous impact on objectively raising society's morals. If people could conduct themselves according to the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, honesty and trust would prevail and corruption would not have run unchecked, and interpersonal relationships would have become harmonious.
However, the evil CCP cannot permit Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance to exist, and began the ruthless persecution of Falun Gong on July 20, 1999.
Countering the CCP's trend of moral degeneration, people who follow the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance can only be admired, as many people truly do not believe that there are still people who in this day and age conduct themselves according to these upright principles. It is therefore even more beyond the imagination of ordinary Chinese people that Falun Dafa practitioners are still coming forward to profess, with an indomitable courage and will, the goodness of the practice; especially so, after the CCP has declared Falun Dafa its arch enemy and inflicted rampant defamation with lies and violent suppression. Since the banning of the practice, practitioners still step forward to say "no!" and dare to expose the evilness of the CCP and resist the persecution. In the minds of most Chinese people the CCP cannot be challenged, and the concept, "the power of arm is no match to that of the thigh" has become the philosophy of life for many.
As American missionary Arthur Henderson Smith (1845-1923) pointed out a century ago, "What the Chinese people are lacking is not wisdom, but courage and a pure and righteous quality of honesty."
Today, Falun Dafa practitioners have demonstrated unyielding courage and a pure quality of honesty in their resistance of the persecution of freedom of belief. What practitioners are striving for is their right to belief, and along with this endeavor, they have also objectively brought to the Chinese people a revival of human morality, a hope for China; a group of ordinary people are creating a miracle in the human world.
