(Clearwisdom.net) On July 4, 2008, Falun Gong practitioners in Hawaii held an event that was part of the "Global Million Signature Drive." The day's activities included group exercise practice at Ala Moana Park in Honolulu and a signature collection drive. The "Global Million Signature Drive" was initiated by the Coalition to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (CIPFG), with the goal of stopping the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) from persecuting Falun Gong.
During the signature drive, Hawaiian practitioners clarified the truth about the persecution and talked about the goodness of Dafa to large numbers of Hawaiian residents as well as tourists. The signature drive was well received by people. People from different walks of life including high school students, retirees, a cook and a business manager signed their names to the petition.
Many tourists also showed their support by signing their names. Mr. Kim from Korea was visiting his relatives in Hawaii. After reading the posters about the persecution, he expressed his sympathy and best wishes to practitioners though he is not fluent in English. A resident of Hawaii had been well informed about Falun Gong. He knew that the persecution in China was launched by the previous CCP leader Jiang Zemin himself. The resident said that he heartily supports the Falun Gong practitioners' filing a lawsuit against Jiang. He signed his name to the petition.
Still, many local residents did not know about Falun Gong, and this event was their first time to hear the facts about the practice and the persecution. Upon learning that the CCP harvested organs from living Falun Gong practitioners, people were shocked and angered by such brutality. They signed their names to express their support for Falun Gong practitioners. Some people took the initiative to pass the information on to their relatives and friends and asked them to sign as well. One woman specifically asked whether children were affected by the persecution. The practitioners told her that over the past nine years of the persecution, many children were orphaned after their parents were persecuted or tortured to death.
At the end of the event, practitioners said that they would work harder on truth-clarification in the future, to bring the facts of the persecution and the goodness of Falun Dafa to everyone.
