(Clearwisdom.net) (By a correspondent from Gansu Province) Mr. Wang Shi'ai and Ms. Hu Guiqin, Falun Gong practitioners from Ganzhou District of Zhangye City, Gansu Province, were arrested on August 26, 2009, and held in detention and sentenced to forced labor respectively. Mr. Wang's father was shocked by his son's arrest and died soon after.
After Ms. Hu was arrested the police ransacked her home and interrogated her using torture. They wanted to extort her confession regarding the source of Falun Gong truth clarification materials and the whereabouts of other practitioners. Ms. Hu refused to cooperate with the police. She was released after being detained for 15 days.
After Mr. Wang was arrested, he was interrogated and intimidated by the police. Attempting to force him into admitting that he had distributed Falun Gong truth clarifying materials, they fabricated a story that someone had photographed the license number of his motorcycle while he was distributing Falun Gong flyers. They also distributed the pictures of Falun Gong practitioners to villagers in the countryside, and threatened the villagers, ordering them to surrender the Falun Gong materials they received from practitioners and to identify the practitioners from the pictures. Based on false accusations, Mr. Wang was sentenced to 18 months of forced labor. In late September Mr. Wang was sent to the First Labor Camp of Gansu Province, but the labor camp refused to accept him because of his hypertension. The police sent Mr. Wang back to the detention center and he was not released until his family paid the police 10,000 yuan.
During the time of Mr. Wang's arrest, his elderly father was ill and bedridden, being cared for by his elderly wife. His family concealed the news of Mr. Wang's arrest from his parents, fearing the impact it would have on his elderly father. Two weeks after his father learned of his son's arrest, he died. At the funeral, \Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials investigated the Falun Gong practitioners who came to help Mr. Wang's family. They plan to persecute those practitioners.
