(Clearwisdom.net) The following is a preliminary summary of the ongoing persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in Hanchuan City, Hubei Province.
Three practitioners were persecuted to death; more than 60 were sent to labor camps and illegally sentenced to prison; more than 40 were forced into brainwashing centers; and more than 100 were detained.
The following are typical cases:

4. Ms. Hu Hanjiao, 45, from Chengguan, Hanchuan City, has been detained and sentenced to forced labor camps many times since July 20, 1999. In 2001, she was sentenced to one year at the Shayang Forced Labor Camp. In October 2003, she was sent to the Tangxunhu Brainwashing Center in Wuhan City and had 6,000 yuan extorted from her. In August 2008, she was sentenced to one year of forced labor at the Women's Forced Labor Camp in Hubei Province.
5. Ms. Yan Liping, 40, is from Chengguan Town in Hanchuan City. On February 9, 2009, she was arrested and taken to the Hanchuan City First Detention Center. She was detained there for four months. Two thousand five hundred yuan was extorted from her. On September 17, 2004, someone reported her to the police while she was distributing truth-clarification materials, and she was arrested by officers from the Hanji Police Station, then sentenced to two years.
6. Ms. Peng Liumei is 64. In December 2000, because she went to Beijing to appeal for Dafa, she was illegally sentenced to forced labor at the Hanchuan City First Detention Center for six months. In January 2002, she was released after going on a hunger strike. She was later arrested and sent to the Hanchuan City First Detention Center. In October, she was sent to the Hubei Women's Forced Labor Camp.
7. Ms. Huang Xingying, 46, is from Chengguan Town in Hanchuan City. Since 1999, she has been detained five times and sentenced to forced labor three times. In September 2009, she was arrested while clarifying the truth and was sent to the First Detention Center. At the beginning of October, she was sent to the Hubei Women's Forced Labor Camp.
8. Mr. Wang Aiqing, 67, is from Chengguan Town in Hanchuan City. Since July 20, 1999, because of cultivating Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, he has been detained eight times. Twelve thousand yuan in total was extorted from him. Before the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008, he was arrested at home and detained for seven months.
9. Mr. Hu Jiancheng, 40, is from Xinhe Town in Hanchuan City. In November 2001, he was sentenced to one year of forced labor at the Shayang Forced Labor Camp. On March 3, 2009, while distributing informational materials, he was arrested by officers from the Xingou Town Police Station. Since then, he has been detained at the Hewan Forced Labor Camp in Wuhan City.
10. Mr. Wang Qiang, 36, is from Chengguan Town in Hanchuan City. Since 1999, he has been detained four times and sentenced to forced labor for a year. In February 2000, he was arrested and sent to the Hanchuan City Second Detention Center and was detained there for more than 30 days. In June 2000, he was detained at the Hanchuan City Second Detention Center, where he was held for 40 days. He was again detained in February 2001, and held for another six months. In August 2001, officials kept him for more than six months at the same place. He was arrested at his workplace on May 22, 2002, and sentenced to 18 months of forced labor at the Hubei Province Shayang Forced Labor Camp.
11. Mr. Chen Deming, 75, started practicing Falun Gong in 1996. In January 2001, he said, "Falun Dafa is good!" at Tiananmen Square. For this, he was sent back to Hanchuan and detained in the First Detention Center. In February 2002, for clarifying the truth about Falun Gong, he was arrested and detained again at the First Detention Center. At the center, guards slapped him in the face and kicked him. He was covered all over with injuries. Later, he was sentenced to one and half years. The officers also extorted 3,400 yuan from him.
12. Ms. Wang Guilan, 64, is from Chengguan Town in Hanchuan City. On February 14, 2002, she was arrested by personnel from the Makou Police Station and taken to the Hanchuan First Detention Center and brainwashing center. She was detained for more than two months. In total, the officers extorted 10,000 yuan from her. Later, because she put up truth-clarification posters, she was arrested by personnel from the Chengbei Police Station in Hanchuan City. She was detained at the Hanchuan Second Detention Center for ten days. She had 2,000 yuan extorted from her.
13. Ms. Wei Cuie, 54, is from Chengguan Town in Hanchuan City. Since July 20, 1999, she has been detained several times and sentenced to forced labor once. On September 7, 1999, because she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, she was detained for more than four months and had 5,000 yuan extorted from her. On May 9, 2000, she was arrested while doing business in Beijing. She was sent to the Hanchuan First Detention Center and was detained for more than three months. She had 2,600 yuan extorted from her. On March 21, 2001, for explaining the facts about Falun Gong, she was arrested by the Wuhan City Dongxi Lake Police Station and then sent to the Hewan Forced Labor Camp. She was sentenced to forced labor for one year. On November 5, 2002, she was arrested and detained for ten days at the Second Detention Center. On December 9, 2004, she was arrested at home and detained for more than a month at the First Detention Center. Center personnel extorted 1,000 yuan from her.
