"Can't wait till next year!" Says Houston Lawyer (Photo)

December 24, 2009 |

(Clearwisdom.net) Lawyer Mr. Wilkins was at the Shen Yun Performing Arts show on Tuesday night at Jones Hall, along with his wife and daughter.

"I am inspired and it is very moving. The dance is beautiful and the choreography is absolutely splendid--a wonderful holiday season spent watching this."

"Beautiful. The colors, the scenery was just beautiful. It's really amazing," his wife added.

"The silk dance is really inspiring and quite exciting to watch."

Mrs. Wilkins refers to Flowing Silk in which silken sleeves flow softly through the air, much like drifting ribbons in the breeze. A favorite in classical Chinese dance, these "water sleeves" patterns conjure up an image of rippling water.

"I thoroughly enjoyed [the show] ... it was absolutely fabulous," Mr. Wilkins enthused.

Lawyer Mr. Wilkins and his wife attended Shen Yun at Jones Hall Tuesday night.

"I certainly learned about a great number of ethnic differences from each region [in China]. I never thought about that. It's good to see and have it expressed in art form."

Mr. Wilkins was very impressed by the dancing.

"Mesmerizing. Very well choreographed, it tells a great story and I enjoyed it immensely. I like the Monkey King and the one where the god comes down into the world."

He refers to The Buddha's Teachings Spread Far and Wide, a depiction of the classic Chinese tale Journey to the West, in which the monk Tripitaka (known in Chinese as Tang Seng) embarks on a pilgrimage in search of Buddhist scriptures braving years of trials and tribulations along with his disciples.

"The music is great. The live orchestra, you can't beat that. It's great."

The orchestra blends traditional Chinese instruments with Western instruments, resulting in a very unique sound.

"I never knew that in Chinese culture there was this thought about gods and I never knew that it existed. I've always been enthralled by Chinese culture," he said.

His wife shared, "My little girl enjoyed the one where the mother gets killed and goes to heaven. She was really inspired by it and really enjoyed it."

Mrs. Wilkins refers to Nothing Can Block the Divine Path in which a mother and daughter are persecuted by police for practicing the peaceful exercises of the spiritual practice Falun Dafa. Though the tale depicts tragedy, it concludes hopefully for mother and daughter.
