(Clearwisdom.net) For Shun Yun's evening performance on Sunday, December 27, 2009, at the San Diego Civic Theatre, Mrs. Franklin, a professor of English in Philadelphia, Drexel University, and Mr. Franklin, a physics professor in Temple University, were in attendance.
"It was beautiful. We were sitting up quite high so we saw the whole panorama of color," Mrs. Franklin said.
Mrs. Franklin was impressed with the display of true kindheartedness and overcoming difficulties by the artists.
"The theme of humanity and kindness and goodness and against cruelty [was truly impressive], as well as the feeling of the importance of freedom."
The audience greatly appreciated the English subtitles that were displayed on the digitally animated backdrop for the Chinese songs, as it gave deeper insight into what was unfolding on the stage.
"Oh it was beautiful--the singing. And it was nice to have so many different levels of voice. Deep baritone and soprano, you know, it was very beautiful. ... It was a big help to read it on the backdrop. It was beautiful. I thought at first that it might take away from the staging, but it really enhanced it."
The beautiful costumes worn by the artists dazzled the eyes of all in the audience, including Mrs. Franklin. "And the colors. The color scheme was gorgeous. The scenes, in Flowing Silk--the sleeves--It was beautiful. I was looking forward to that. I didn't realize they could do it with the other dances as well. Also, we were impressed that these were Chinese people grown up in the West--these dancers know what freedom means."
Mr. Franklin said "It really was a beautiful, beautiful performance. The humanity in the show was so deep. Also there were so much about the Lords and heaven and earth. The lyrics were impressive."
