March 12, 2009 |   By Zheng Yuyan

(Clearwisdom.net) Taipei, TAIWAN- Divine Performing Arts (DPA) is known for its classical Chinese dance and traditional songs.

Beginning on February 25, 2009, the DPA company performed eight shows during a six-day run at the Taipei International Conference Center. The audience enjoyed the shows and learned about the true meaning of life. The Chinese New Year Spectacular shows were given a warm welcome and good reviews from people of all backgrounds.

On March 2, 2009, tickets for the last show were sold out. The artists were honored with three curtain calls.

Proud of Being a Chinese

Chen Wenyan, President of So-easy.com and former vice president of Robina Finance and Leasing, thanked DPA for coming to Taiwan. "Through art, aesthetics, and liveliness, the show manifested the spirit of the 5,000 years of Chinese culture very beautifully. It allows people to gain a higher spiritual understanding." The spiritual content of the culture made him proud of being Chinese.

He did not know that the artists train in a school in the United States until after the show. He said, "This is the best way to preserve the civilization, and I highly approve of it."

Recover Traditional Culture to Get to Know Our True Selves

Mr. Chen believed that, despite the financial crisis, people wanted to be in the audience because the show presented true traditional values and respect for nature and virtue.

The costume designs and the combinations of colors drew his attention. He admired the performers in "Mongolian Chopsticks" because of the way they presented the story, and "Mulan Joins the Battle" touched his heart because of the values it portrayed.

"The DPA allows people to understand themselves based on their history. Today's generation shouldn't forget their history. Mulan joined the battle on behalf of her father out of loyalty and filial piety. This should make people think about and identify with the meaning of their lives. I really thank DPA for coming to Taiwan."

Mr. Chen would like to see more elementary and middle school students attend such a show. "With a modern education that includes learning ethics and morality, I believe our lives would be happy and full of hope."

Music Consultant for a Radio Station: The Songs Bring Out What Is Best about the Show

Fu Ruyang, music consultant for Super99.1 radio station, heard about the Spectacular from a friend. After watching the final show, he was impressed with the musical skills of the artists in "The Monkey King Triumphs," "The Poet's Vision," "Mulan Joins the Battle," and "Monk Ji Gong Abducts the Bride."

In his opinion, the songs brought out what was best about the show. "The lyrics and messages in the songs are profound, and the artists did an extraordinary job."

Mr. Fu graduated from the Department of Radio and Television at the National Taiwan University of Arts, where he currently lectures. He is very fond of dance. "The choreography was so well designed that it could be called flawless."

"The Spectacular manifested the beauty of Chinese culture and the meaning of Truth-Compassion-Forbearance. It includes famous historical and mythical characters such as Monk Ji Gong, the Monkey King and Mulan. The show went smoothly and was very impressive, especially the songs."

Chief Executive Officer: Perfect and Touching

Chen Junji is the CEO of the Global EMBA Center at Tatung University. This was the second time he had seen the Spectacular. He thought the show combined culture with belief. "It is hard to present a broad concept such as culture perfectly through performing arts, but the DPA company did it. It did so well that the deep meanings of the programs touched my heart."

"I can feel that DPA wants to bring out the benevolent side of human nature through every story and message it presents in the songs and the words on the backdrop."

Mr. Chen is into Buddhism and related very well to the song sung by tenor Guan Guimin. "People reincarnate and the song is telling people that this current life is very important."

Upon hearing that the other two DPA groups were performing in Paris, France, and Rhode Island in the US at the same time, he was glad to know that so many people are having the opportunity to see the Spectacular and that the DPA's values and message are being shared throughout the world.
