Chen Chiashang, chairman of the Asian Watercolor Painting Federation and director of Japanese Modern Art Association
(Clearwisdom.net) KAOHSIUNG, Taiwan--The New York-based Shen Yun
Performing Arts International Company staged its second Kaohsiung performance on
March 14 at Kaohsiung County Government Labor Affairs Bureau, attracting another
full-house audience.
In the audience was artist Chen Chiashang, known as "Taiwan's Miller'"
after Thomas Miller, a painter of rural America. He is also chairman of the
Asian Watercolor Painting Federation, director of the Japanese Modern Art
Association, founder and president of Kaohsiung Watercolor Association, and
member of the Tainan Art Research Association.
"The movements were impeccable. This is the most spectacular show I've seen
in 77 years."
During intermission, Mr. Chen said that he appreciated his friend's
recommendation to see the show, and that he had seized the opportunity to
attend. "The colors of the dancers' costumes and the colors of the
backdrops matched flawlessly. I have never seen such a perfect combination of
colors before. This type of design is truly amazing.
"The tone of color in the program 'Dragon Springs Drummers' was a
hundred percent, absolutely a hundred percent [perfect.] That's why I said Shen
Yun has been very dedicated to the study of color. It is so great for a Chinese
performance to tour around the world."
Mr. Chen often holds art exhibitions. He often paints farms and farmers and has
earned the title "Taiwan's Miller." He also paints mountains, water,
and the beauty of nature. He was amazed by the backdrops of Shen Yun.
"The backdrops' depth, the levels of greens--very good, very beautiful.
Artists should all come and learn from this," he said.
