Mr. Grove, who played with Will Ferrell in the popular Christmas movie "Elf," was highly impressed with Shen Yun. "It's very theatrical, and it's telling a grand, big story, and has lots of history as well, which is fascinating. It's beautifully choreographed. Everything is told really easily."

Mr. Grove, said a number of different aspects of the show stood out for him. "The drums are really powerful for sure, the colour, and the choreography again. The movement--there are just so many levels, and it's so precise and synchronized. The story telling is really clear, so it's impressive."

Mr. Grove's grandmother, Maureen MacLeod, also enjoyed the show immensely. "I'm reveling in it! I think its fantastic, I just love it. The drummers and everything are wonderful. It's really fascinating, superb."

Ms. MacLeod added that she got a strong feeling that she had seen the show before--even though she hadn't. "I'm sure I had a reincarnation in China--it just seems familiar to me. It just seems as though I've seen it before but I never have."

She also praised the innovative, colorful backdrops, saying they were "Very original."

Former Professional Ballerina Highly Impressed By Shen Yun

Mr. and Mrs. Prefontaine and their two daughters were also among the appreciative audience on Shen Yun's opening night in Vancouver.

An actress and former National Ballet de Mexico classical ballerina, Mrs. Prefontaine said, "We definitely enjoyed it. I loved the choreography and the costumes were beautiful. The ladies looked beautiful with their technique and I loved their live music. It was very nice. It was a very nice touch to it."

She said that all the pieces were beautiful but she particularly enjoyed "Flowing Sleeves" with the yellow long sleeves and "Mystical Phoenix" where "the hands and the whole body" were representing the phoenix. "Visually it was very lovely to see all the work of their arms, as well as how their bodies extended to the costumes. The costumes were very well used in order to use the music and the choreography. All of them looked very good together," she said.

Mr. Prefontaine, who is in business development in the Asia-Pacific region for an international company, said that the programs were, "All good, very enjoyable--beautiful dancers, beautiful dance."

"It's positive for everybody to see the beautiful Chinese tradition"

Also among the audience were Mr. Miguez, executive producer and host of Acento Latino TV, and his co-host, Mrs. Wrzesinski. "We feel that it is very, very good, well presented. It is very enjoyable to see this presentation," said Mr. Miguez, whose ethnic TV program is a part of Vancouver's Shaw Multicultural Channel.

Mr. Miguez added that he rated Shen Yun as "Triple A" and found that there was a message embedded in the show--"a message of Chinese tradition."

Mrs. Wrzesinski was also appreciative of Shen Yun. "I love it. I really love it. It is very nice. Because our culture is so different from yours, so Chinese culture--in this kind of performance--we are learning; we are knowing a little bit more about another culture, and at the same time, we are enjoying it. So it is a great performance."

Mr. Miguez concluded, "I think it's positive in general for everybody to see the tradition--the beautiful Chinese tradition."
