1. Mr. Ma Chunwang Dies after Suffering Persecution
Mr. Ma Chunwang, 82, lived in the Xishan Area, Shayibake District, Urumqi City, Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region. He was arrested many times after the persecution began in 1999. On September 6, 2008, he was arrested along with fellow practitioners Mr. Cao Hongqi and Mr. Zou Kewen, and about a dozen practitioners then later bailed him out. On May 6, 2009, the Middle Court of Urumqi City held trials for Mr. Cao Hongqi, Mr. Zou Kewen, Mr. Zhu Kui, and Mr. Ma Chunwang. Mr. Ma returned home after the trials. On July 12, 2009, Mr. Ma was found dead by his neighbor in his home. His Falun Gong books, personal ID, and MP3 player had been taken away from his home.
2. Mr. Liu Chaokun's Mother Dies after Three of Her Family Members Were Taken Away
Mr. Liu Chaokun; his wife, Ms. Chen Ping; and his niece, Ms. Liu Hongxia, were all arrested from home on July 12, 2008. They lived together with his mother, who was over 80 years old and took care Ms. Liu's toddler. After they were arrested, Mr. Liu's mother was left without anyone to look after her and the young child, or any source of income. With the toddler in tow, she went to request the release of her family at the 610 Office every day. Placed under tremendous hardship by having her family and support system taken away due to the persecution, she passed away on June 26, 2009.
