(Clearwisdom.net) On July 10, 2009, Mr. Shen Quanhui, a Falun Gong practitioner from Yanji City, Jilin Province, was sentenced to eight years in prison . Several days later, his wife Li Fengyun was arrested by the police.
On September 8, 2008, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Mr. Shen and his wife were arrested while passing out Falun Gong materials in Yanfeng Village, Toudao Town, Helong City. They were taken to the police station in Toudao District.
During their detention in the police station in Toudao Town, Mr. Shen and his wife were locked in separate rooms. The police used torture to extract confessions from them. They handcuffed Ms. Li's hands behind her back and pulled her hair forcibly. They struck her on the face and kicked her. They also subjected her to sleep deprivation and standing for long periods of time. They placed a bag over her face and suffocated her to the point where her face turned pale. After Ms. Li's hands were handcuffed behind her back, the police pulled her hands upward, while pushing her shoulders down, causing her excruciating pain. They forcibly pushed her to the ground and sat on her back. They then split her legs and pulled them upward. After sprinkling water on her, they began shocking her with electric batons. The officers hit her with a metal pipe until it bent under the stress of the blows. They also whipped her with a plastic club. The next morning, Ms. Li was again cruelly beaten and tortured by two people who were said to be senior policemen. They told her, "If you don't say anything, we won't stop beating you."
On September 9, 2008, the police ransacked Ms. Li's house and took away a number of valuables, including a blue passenger car, a motorcycle, videos and photos.
Several days later, the police sent her to the detention camp in Helong City. There, she was abused to the verge of death and was sent to the hospital. On October 4, Ms. Li escaped and went from place to place to avoid further persecution. However, on the morning of July 27, 2009, Ms. Li was again arrested by the police.
Mr. Shen Quanhui was sentenced to eight years in jail, and was almost beaten to death by the police. After the police sent him to the detention camp in Xicheng District, Helong City, they tried to extract confessions from him. They handcuffed his hands and legs, and sat on his back while pulling the handcuffs up. They also stomped on his back, causing him extreme pain. After three months of torture, Mr. Shen lost the ability to walk and vomited almost everything that he ingested. His lower leg became numb. Even today, he still feels pain in his chest and body.
Mr. Shen's 76-year-old mother went to the Helong Public Security Bureau several times to demand the release of her son. In February 2009, after going through a lot of difficulties, she finally had a chance to see her son for ten minutes. She had not seen him for the five months since he was arrested. Ms. Shen, who used to be a 200-pound healthy man, was now emaciated and seemingly on the verge of death. Upon seeing him, she began choking up and murmured, "My son just wants to become a good person. He didn't break any laws."
On April 13, 2009, the of Helong City filed a indictment to the court, and a trial was held on May 14. On July 10, 2009, he was sentenced to eight years in prison.
