(Clearwisdom.net) When Mr. Savage saw a display in Washington, DC, advertising that Shen Yun Performing Arts would be in Portland, Maine, he knew that it would be a perfect way for him and his wife to celebrate their 17th wedding anniversary.
He knew how much his wife enjoyed dance and said, "She would love this, so I wanted to bring her to see it."
So Mr. and Mrs. Savage celebrated their special day at Merrill Auditorium on Saturday, September 19, 2009. He builds ships, and his wife is a researcher at Dartmouth College.
Mr. and Mrs. Savage celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary by watching Shen Yun
As they talked about the show, the couple finished each other's sentences as if in complete agreement and understanding about the spectacular show they'd seen.
Mr. Savage was impressed by the universal spirit within this very different culture: "It recognized the beautiful sameness within us all while celebrating the difference of all the varying cultures across China, and then you could expand that to include the world."
"Phenomenal," "Wonderful," and "Exciting," were the words the couple used to describe the performance "Dragon Springs Drummers."
Mrs. Savage was visibly overwhelmed by the experience. "The dancers are so beautiful. I was saying, 'Wow! I wish I could do that.'"
She was moved by the message at the end of the show, which she described as a transformation into a new culture, a culture that includes the divine. "Such a message! I thought it had a very powerful, powerful message," she said.
"The strength of the message, I think, is in celebrating the differences while accepting the sameness," Mr. Savage added.
Mrs. Savage continued by adding that she felt thoroughly exhilarated by the end of the show. "It really brought things together .... everything came together," she said.
