(Clearwisdom.net) Today's News from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 15 cities or counties in seven provinces. In this report, 16 Falun Gong practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention, and at least 20 practitioners were illegally arrested.
1. [Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province] Ms. Deng Fangchen Arrested
Ms. Deng Fangchen, 35, from Hunan Province, is self-employed. She owns and operates a shop at the Leather Shopping Mall in Guihuagang, Guangzhou Province. Officers from the 610 Office in the Yuexiu District and from the Haizhu District went to her shop on the afternoon of January 13, 2010. They forcibly searched her purse and found several DVDs with Falun Gong-related content. They took her into custody, and her shop had to be closed. To our knowledge, Ms. Deng had thought to invite her father to attend the Shen Yun performance to be held in Hong Kong. Her cell phone might have been tapped. 610 Office agents intercepted her call to her husband when she bought tickets. We assume they arrested her primarily for this reason.
2. [Helong City, Jilin Province] Ms. Pang Fengxian Arrested
Bajiazi Town Police Station officers recently worked together with those from the Helong Domestic Security Division to persecute practitioners. They arrested Ms. Liu Jun, and attempted to arrest Ms. Li Longchun, who was away. Helong Domestic Security Division officers arrested Ms. Pang Fengxian on January 16, 2010, in Bajiazi and walked away with three computers.

3. [Xinyang City, Henan Province] Ms. Zhang Qiuju Given a Three-Year Prison Term
Ms. Zhang Qiuju from the Shihe District was arrested on June 10, 2009. Shihe District Domestic Security Division officers made the arrest. Ms. Zhang was later tried and sentenced to three years in prison.
Ms. Zhang was first arrested in 2000. A group of officers from the Shihe District Domestic Security Division took her to a remote village where they grossly abused and tortured her. They yanked out her hair and beat her so severely she had bruises on her nose and face. They covered the windows with cotton-padded blankets so that no one could hear her scream from the pain. She was unable to stand due to torture. After she was sentenced several months later, her family saw her face disfigured and bruised when they met with her.
Ms. Zhang has been subjected to detention and gross abuse numerous times since July 1999.
4. [Genhe City, Inner Mongolia] Ms. Li Yuying and Her Daughter, Ms. Lu Ling, Arrested
Ms. Li Yuying and her daughter, Ms. Lu Ling, from De'erbu'er were arrested at her son's home on the afternoon of January 16, 2010. Participating in the arrest were personnel from the Genhe Comprehensive Management Office and officers led by Chief Li Minglu from the De'erbu'er Police Station. The police also ransacked her home.

5. [Guiyang City, Guizhou Province] Ms. Qin Jinlian Arrested
Ms. Qin Jinlian, 58, from the Baiyun District is a retired teacher from the No.9 Elementary School. She ran a preschool class at home after her retirement. A student's parent reported her to the police in January 2010 because Ms. Qin told her students about Falun Gong. Hongshan Police Station officers arrested her at home on the afternoon of January 16, 2010. Ms. Qin is now in the Baiyun District Drug Rehabilitation Center.

6. [Rizhao City, Shandong Province] Nine Practitioners Persecuted
The following nine practitioners from Rizhao City were arrested between January 14 and January 17, 2010: Ms. Mu Zengyan, Ms. Wang Yun, Ms. Hong Meishuang, Ms. Gao Xiuhua, Ms. Liu Hairong, Ms. Liu Guiqin, Mr. Wang Yongxian, Mr. Li Yanting, and Ms. Ding Yinyu.
Ms. Mu Zengyan was arrested at work on January 14, 2010. Ms. Hong Meishuang was deceived into going outside her workplace and arrested that same day. Ms. Wang Yun, Ms. Liu Guiqin, Mr. Wang Yongxian, and Ms. Gao Xiuhua were also arrested that day. Ms. Zhang Li had her home ransacked at the time. Ms. Liu Hairong was arrested at home on January 16, 2010. Mr. Zhou Degang was harassed.
Mr. Yan Liting, Ms. Ding Yinyu, and Ms. Ding's non-practitioner husband, Mr. Ge, were arrested on the morning of January 17, 2010.

7. [Shandong Province] Retired Teacher Ms. Ma Yurong Arrested
Ms. Ma Yurong, in her 60s, is a retired teacher from the Liaocheng Technical School. She was arrested as she distributed information about Falun Gong in early January 2010.
8. [Jinan City, Shandong Province] Ms. Fang Xiuzhen Faces Trial
Ms. Fang Xiuzhen was scheduled for trial at 9:30 a.m. on January 21, 2010.
9. [Tianjin] Additional Information Regarding the Arrest of Ms. Jia Wenguang
Ms. Jia Wenguang from the Hedong District was reported to the police at around 1:00 p.m. on January 14, 2010, as she spoke with people about the persecution of Falun Gong. The arrest happened on the Jingjiang Bridge on Jingjiang Street in the Hebei District. She was taken into custody at the Dajiang Street Police Station in the Hebei District. Her family and fellow practitioners went to the station to look for her the following afternoon and were told that Ms. Jia had been transferred to the Hebei Police Department.

10. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Sun Dewu Detained
Local police deceived Mr. Sun Dewu from the Dalian City Color Printing Factory into going to the police station on January 13, 2010, and detained him. This was Mr. Sun's second arrest. On his first arrest the police extorted 30,000 yuan from his family.
11. [Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Ma Haichao Arrested
Mr. Ma Haichao from Jinzhou City lives at Haihe Street #24-28 in the Gaoxinyuan District. He was held four times in custody centers and twice in detention centers for practicing Falun Gong and subjected to physical torture and mental torment.
Three days ahead of the 2003 Chinese New Year, officers from the Linghai Police Station in the Gaoxinyuan District took Mr. Ma, his parents-in-law, and brother-in-law to the station. His non-practitioner brother-in-law was later released. Mr. Ma and his parents-in-law were held 15 days in a detention center and then transported to a custody center. Mr. Ma held a one-month hunger strike and was sent to a hospital to be force-fed. He was able to escape and left the area to avoid additional harassment.
Mr. Ma returned home seven years later to apply for an ID. A female officer who issued ID cards reported him to the police on the afternoon on January 5, 2010. He is being held in the city's custody center.
12. [Shantou City, Guangdong Province] Ms. Cai Wenjuan and Mr. Xie Xianghe Subjected to Forced Labor
Ms. Cai Wenjuan and Mr. Xie Xianghe from Shantou City were arrested in September 2009. They were taken to the Sanshui Forced Labor Camp on December 25, 2009. It was Mr. Xie's second forced labor sentence.
13. [Wuli County, Shandong Province] Ms. Wang Yuexia Arrested
Ms. Wang Yuexia was arrested as she distributed information about Falun Gong.
14. [Wuhan City, Hubei Province] Additional Information Regarding the Persecution of Ms. Liu Limin
Ms. Liu Limin is a former staff member from the Hubei Province Association for the Disabled. She was taken into custody at the Erdaopeng Brainwashing Center on July 1, 2008, for distributing information about Falun Gong near Tangjiadun in the Jianghan District. Brainwashing facility head Qu Shen ordered personnel Yang Xiuzhen and others to subject Ms. Liu to nine days of sleep deprivation. Ms. Liu did not succumb. She was taken to the Hewan Forced Labor Camp in December 2008, to be held for one and a half years.
While in the forced labor camp, Ms. Liu refused to wear a prison uniform or do hard labor. The guards subjected her to sleep deprivation and forced her to stand overnight in the winter. The guards further persecuted her by only allowing her to buy some daily necessities from a small store in the camp, but forbade her from buying any food; even pickled vegetables were not allowed.
Eighteen-year-old Ms. Wang Yu from the Dongxihu area is among the practitioners who are incarcerated in the Hewan Forced Labor Camp. All practitioners are separated and held in different divisions. They are forbidden to meet with each other and are not allowed to speak with other inmates. Ms. Liu Limin is held in a cell where two inmates are assigned to monitor her around the clock.
15. [Anshan City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Wu Bo and Others Held in the Dalian Prison
Mr. Wu Bo from Anshan City is in the Dalian Prison. He has held a hunger strike since March 2009. He is in poor health and suffers from stomach adhesions.
Mr. Wang Jiangning from Shenyang City was given an eight-year prison term and is being held in Ward No. 6 in the Dalian Prison. He was placed in solitary confinement for shouting "Falun Dafa is good!"
16. [Huaiyang County, Henan Province] Ms. Xu Leilan Subjected to Persecution Numerous Times
Ms. Xu Leilan, 62, was subjected to persecution numerous times for remaining steadfast in her belief in Falun Gong. She is now unable to take care of herself.
Ms. Xu was first taken into custody in early October 2000. She was held in the Huaiyang Detention Center for over 40 days. She was released only because her husband died. She was arrested a second time in the summer of 2001 when she was working in the field. The police took her to the Huaiyang County Detention Center and extorted over 1,000 yuan from her family before releasing her two days ahead of the Chinese New Year in 2002. Ms. Xu's third arrest led to a one-month detention. She held a hunger strike and her condition was critical. The guards forced her family to pay over 500 yuan to secure her release on medical parole.
Ms. Xu was arrested for the fourth time at home on October 3, 2003. She was taken to the Shibalihe Women's Forced Labor Camp in Zhengzhou City and held for two years. She was taken into custody the fifth time on December 12, 2005, and held in a detention center for 15 days. Her sixth arrest happened on April 23, 2008. She was subjected to one year of forced labor. During the past several years, Ms. Xu was not only subjected to detention and forced labor sentences but was also harassed by the police in her home. Ms. Xu is now unable to take care of herself.
