(Clearwisdom.net) Nathaniel Kahn, a renowned documentary filmmaker, was at the January 2nd showing of the Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Philadelphia Academy of Music.
Mr. Kahn, documentary filmmaker, said he knew some of the stories performed in Shen Yun
"If heaven is the way we saw it tonight, count me in!"
At a reception held after the show, Mr. Kahn praised Shen Yun for its consummate beauty and message.
In discussing the dance piece "Nothing Can Block the Divine Path," depicting the suppression of Falun Gong in contemporary China, he felt that not enough had been done to expose the atrocities taking place there.
"We have to change it," he said. "I've always believed in my heart that art is the greatest way to change the world. Culture and art really is the strongest force that we have, stronger than any weapon. It's stronger than any ideology.
"It is just the ability of human beings to reach across the boundaries that separate different cultures, different peoples and say; 'We're all human together and we're all under the same sky, we all live on the same earth, the same planet."
Mr Kahn concluded by saying, "All I can say is thank you so much for doing this [Shen Yun] as it's enormously important, and if heaven is the way we saw it tonight, count me in."
"I thought it was a very great cultural event"
Also among the audience was physician Dr. Kwon. "I thought it was a very great cultural event for Philadelphia--a lot of the classical Chinese dance is really hard to find on the East Coast, and it's a great performance tonight," he said.
Physician Dr. Kwon.
"In the era of modern art and modern dance ... some of the classical dances of other countries and other nations have been forgotten, and I am glad to see that they were able to bring it to Philadelphia again," Dr. Kwon said.
"I would say that I think that anyone that has any interest in Asian art should come to see this performance," he said.
"It was spectacular! There are no words to describe it!"
Former Philadelphia Eagles General Manager Jim Murray also praised the show saying, "It was spectacular! There are no words to describe it!"
"The scenery was outstanding, but the most beautiful parts were the dancers themselves, not just their ability to dance, but to communicate and talk to each other in dance," he enthused. Mr. Murray's wife is a professional dancer and choreographer.
"I had a blessing tonight, sharing this beautiful experience, the beauty of China through dance," Mr. Murray added.
"I think it's important for people all over the world to share this experience because, as I said, it's much more than a show. For me it was a prayer, a reflection as a process that says, 'I must know more about a country.' I'd rate it, highest rating ever."
When asked how he would rate the show, Mr. Murray spontaneously replied, "Super bowl!"
