Taipei, Taiwan: Former Cornell University Professor Says Shen Yun Is 'Very Precious' (Photos)

April 28, 2010 |

(Clearwisdom.net) TAIPEI, Taiwan--"My feeling is that (Shen Yun) is really very good. Very good--very precious," praised Mr. Robert C. A. Yang, former professor at Cornell University, who, with his wife, watched the Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company's 2010 premiere at the National Taiwan University of Arts on the evening of April 25, 2010. Professor Yang returned to Taiwan about ten years ago after living overseas for about 40 years.

He added, "When looking at it (Shen Yun) from the perspective of art, it is very special. It is indeed not easy for overseas Chinese to make a comprehensive introduction to the culture and history of the great Chinese nation through this kind of performance." Professor Yang highly praised Shen Yun for its promotion of traditional culture by means of a creative approach.

Mr. Yang has held fine art exhibitions in Ottawa, Canada, and National Taiwan University's Museum of Medical Humanities respectively, and has worked with some research institutions in the U.S. and Canada to engage in medical research. After watching Shen Yun, he was deeply touched. "Wow! It was indeed remarkable for Shen Yun to give such a high class performance. It was really marvelous. I was very much moved by the performance based on our Chinese culture and history.

"I was deeply touched, and had an intensely sympathetic feeling about it."

Professor Yang said, "This is a very good opportunity for us to revive our confidence ... So, we should be proud of it."

Grammy Award Finalist: Shen Yun Is An Eye-Opener

Xiao Qing-Yang, a designer of album-packaging, has been a Grammy Award Finalist three times. For the past three years he has been seeing Shen Yun posters while overseas during the Chinese New Year. He thought that the Chinese people in New York and Los Angeles must have really liked to watch Eastern shows to celebrate the Chinese New Year. However, he was especially pleased when he found out Shen Yun would be in Taiwan, and decided to come to the show.

"I haven't seen such an Eastern style of fairies, goddesses, and stories for a long time. I'm so happy to see them today! There are a lot of musicians and dance artists here. Their abilities and performances were outstanding!" Mr. Xiao said.

He also said that Shen Yun's artists performed wholeheartedly and it showed that they have worked very hard. "Whenever there was a plot, I had increasing admiration for Shen Yun, because the details are quite delicate. I can tell that they have received very strict training. From my point of view as an artist, a lot of practice time is needed to have such ability to perform on stage."

Mr. Xiao, born in 1966, said that living in this world, he had felt there were a lot of things that couldn't be understood or explained. After seeing the Shen Yun performance, he said he recalled a lot of Eastern culture. "Actually, I feel this situation that it seems we were also Gods coming to the world. After cultivating, we are then preparing to go back to heaven."

He said that it is great encouragement to see such an artistic representation of Chinese culture. "Today I saw such a show, which seemed to remind me of what I have come here [to this world] for! Although I haven't found an exact answer, I am glad to have an opportunity to see such a show."
