(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Li Yaping, around 60, is a retired employee of Jianshui County Chinese Medicine Hospital in Yunnan Province. A group of agents from Jianshui County Domestic Security Division arrested her on November 27, 2009 while she distributed information about Falun Gong and the persecution. The police then ransacked her home, located in the dorm area of the Jianshui County Hospital. They confiscated her Falun Gong books, computer, printer and other personal belongings. The police involved in her arrest included Head Shu Yunchao, political head Cao Jianlin, policemen Wu Di and Duan from Domestic Security Division.
The police sent Ms. Li Yaping to the Jianshui County Detention Center. After nearly two months of detention and interrogation, the captors still couldn't make her reveal the source of her Falun Gong materials. They took her back to her home in mid-January 2010, placed the confiscated computer on a desk and ordered her to sit down. They intended to videotape her using the computer so they could fabricate evidence against her. Li Yaping's mother, who is in her 80s, immediately stopped them. The elderly mother, supported by a cane, stood at the door and questioned the police, "My daughter was captured right on the street. Why would you guys come to our home to fabricate evidence? You can't tape her!" They police left.
Ever since Li Yaping's arrest the police denied her family visitation rights. Her family went to the detention center numerous times requesting to see her, but was turned down every time. Detention center officials said, "Her case is still being investigated so no one is allowed to see her." When the family turned to the police department, they were directed to the Procuratorate, which eventually told them that Li's case had been transferred to Honghe Area Court and Procuratorate.
Jianshui County Court tried her on May 17, 2010 without notifying her family and delivered no verdict that day, but recently sentenced her to four years in prison. Below are details of the persecution she was subjected to.
Learning of the trial by chance, her husband, mother, and younger brother and sister immediately took a taxi to the courtroom, about 2 miles away. By the time they got there the trial was already half way through.
Li Yaping's family saw her handcuffed, and surrounded by dozens of agents from the 610 Office, the Domestic Security Division and the court.
During the trial, Li Yaping peacefully explained the goodness of Falun Dafa and pointed out the illegality of the persecution. Seeing that her family suddenly showed up in the courtroom, the presiding judge became frightened and adjourned the trial within 15 minutes of their arrival. Li Yaping walked up to her mother and said, "Mother, please look after yourself for now. I'll take very good care of you when I get out. You will be the happiest person in the whole world. History will show that Falun Dafa is innocent." Her elderly mother said loudly to the judge and police, "Do you have any legal evidence that justifies persecuting Falun Gong? Did Falun Gong hurt anyone? Show me the evidence!" The people were speechless. Li Yaping's mother continued, "Why didn't you inform our family of the trial?" The court people replied shamelessly, "She is a grownup, so there is no need to inform the family." Several policemen dragged Li Yaping out of the courtroom and drove her away in a police car.
