(Clearwisdom.net) The New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts staged three high-energy shows at the Brown Theater at the Wortham Center, in Houston, Texas, on July 2-3, 2010.

"Beautiful Dance, Very Good Story Lines, I Really Enjoyed It!"

Among the many distinguished guests at the show was Sandra Massie-Hines, honorary mayor of Sunnyside.

"Shen Yun gave an awesome, awesome performance," said Ms. Massie-Hines

. "This was a great, exciting and awesome cultural arts event."

Besides being a civil rights and community leader, she is also a singer and a promoter of the arts.

"Today's performing arts really was excellent. Whoever the choreographer was, everything was excellent. The costumes were very strikingly unique. The whole event, the entire show with Shen Yun, was just really awesome. It's a great sight to see, and I would advise anyone who has not seen this performance to see it. It is excellent," she said.

"Beautiful dance, very good story lines, I really enjoyed it."

Ms. Massie-Hines noted the enthusiasm and smiling faces of the dancers, saying, "They captured your attention throughout the whole performance. Excellent, beautiful, beautiful."

Besides enjoying the dance sets and the live orchestra, she was also impressed by the animated digital backdrops used throughout the show.

"I really didn't think they could create the art that appears [as if] people were leaving offstage and going into the sky--and such colors. It was just beautiful."

Ms. Massie-Hines emphasized that Shen Yun was a "great, great cultural arts exchange" and a "historic event"

City Council Member Full of Praise for Shen Yun

Shen Yun Performing Arts was welcomed to Houston by City Council member Wanda Adams.

At a post-show VIP reception, Houston City Council member Wanda Adams thanked Shen Yun for visiting her city.

"First of all, I would like to say thank you for allowing me to share this evening with you. I didn't come alone. I have my Mum here with me, as well as my friend, to share this wonderful performance.

"On behalf of the City of Houston, our wonderful Mayor Liz Parker, and representatives of the City Council, I want to thank you for bringing your culture alive on stage here at the Wortham Center."

Ms. Adams was captivated by the interaction between the digital backdrop and the dancers.

"When I looked at the digital performance of the art behind the scene, I asked myself, 'How do they do that?' I still want to know how you brought the people from the screen down to life," she said.

"That was such a wonderful performance. I thank you for sharing your culture with us, thank you for bringing your story to life on stage, thank you for your wonderful talent and your wonderful gift that you bring here to Houston, and thank you for bringing Shen Yun here."

Ms. Adams said she was honored to have had the opportunity to see such an exhilarating show.

"I hope this isn't the last time you come to Houston."

Renowned Museum of Cultural Arts Executive Director: Shen Yun is "Awe Inspiring"

The rain outside didn't dampen the spirits of the enthusiastic audience.

"The Colors and Choreography Were Absolutely Divine. I loved it!"

Also in the audience was Reginald Adams, executive director of Houston's Museum of Cultural Arts and one of the city's most prolific public artists, having designed, coordinated, managed, and produced over 80 public art projects across the city.

Mr. Adams remarked that Shen Yun was "one of the best expressions of creativity" that he had ever seen. "The colors and the combinations and the choreography were absolutely divine. I loved it!"

He said that, as an artist, he had "an appreciation for the bold colors, the movement, the coordination of the colors with the backdrop-it was absolutely a wonderful combination of art and creativity.

"I was very inspired ... I'll go home with ideas in my own mind to create my own works of art, having seen the dancers perform for us tonight."

Mr. Adams continued, "I think what's most inspiring, is the culture ... and you know, the beauty of the artwork. It transcends the entire world.

So it touches me very deeply to know that tonight I was able to experience some dances and stories that I never knew before, and somehow I know that the influence will come out in my own artwork and I look forward to seeing how that happens in the future."

Mr. Adams explained that, before Shen Yun came to Houston, he did some background research on Shen Yun, and as a result, he was really looking forward to seeing it live.

"I was very excited tonight to be able to see it with my own eyes. It's one thing to see the beauty on video or in photographs, but to see the performances live, it was awe-inspiring."

Among the many the many enjoyable parts of the show, Mr. Adams said that the dance "In a Miao Village" really caught his eye.

"I could resonate with the sounds in that performance. I think that was my most favorite. I loved that one the most, but they were all wonderful.

"I will go home and tell all of my friends that they must not miss tomorrow's performance. In fact, tonight, as soon as I leave, I'm going to get on my Facebook and let them know how wonderful a time I had. It's wonderful."
