Mr. Zeng, 68, is a retired employee of the Guangzhou City Tire Factory. When he began to practice Falun Gong in 1995, an illness that had plagued him for years disappeared. He went to various government departments to clarify the facts about Falun Gong when the Chinese Communist Party started its persecution, and as a result has been subjected to all kinds of persecution. Mr. Zeng has been detained in a brainwashing center, his home has been ransacked, and he has been harassed and monitored by security officials.
Ms. Zeng Libo, 35, originally from Hunan Province, is Mr. Zeng's daughter-in-law and an accounting manager at a foreign-owned company. Officers from the Jiangnanzhong Street Police Station refused to issue her a Guangzhou resident's identity card because she practices Falun Gong.
The two practitioners were illegally arrested because they were said to have distributed truth clarification materials. The police ransacked each of their homes and confiscated two computers, truth clarification materials and other Falun Gong literature.
Mr. and Ms. Zeng are still being held in Jiangnanzhong Police Station, in Haizhu District, Guangzhou.
Ms. Xiaomei, a practitioner from Chaozhou City, was arrested on the same day near Sun Yat-Sen University. Her whereabouts are unknown.
