Ms. Ji Shujun

However, Ms. Ji has been persecuted several times since the persecution of Falun Gong began in 1999. On November 24, 2010, while detained at the Shijiazhuang Women’s Forced Labor Camp in Hebei Province, she was dragged along the ground, by the feet, into the lobby by labor camp guards for long periods of forced standing. She is now detained in the No. 1 Division, and is in fragile condition due to long-term torture.

Buried Alive During First Detention at a Forced Labor Camp

In 2001, Ms. Ji went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. She was illegally arrested and detained in a forced labor camp for three years. During the detainment, she suffered from all kinds of torture, including being shocked with electric batons, being slapped in the face, having her feet shackled, and long-term kneeling on sand and gravel. The long-term kneeling caused bleeding in her knees. The labor camp guards tortured her frequently. In one instance, in an attempt to force her to give up her faith, they buried her in sand, and added sand until it reached up to her neck, which rendered her unable to breathe. Consequently, she could not get out of bed for the next three months. Later she went on a hunger strike to protest the torture.

After three years' detainment, Ms. Ji was released. However, the local police still harassed her. In 2006, she was forced to leave home for Chicheng, Zhangjiakou City in Hebei Province, to avoid further harassment. She persisted in telling people the facts about Falun Gong, and this resulted in detainment three more times.

Further Persecution in a Forced Labor Camp

In 2009, Ms. Ji was arrested when she was clarifying the facts about Falun Gong. She was detained in the Shijiazhuang Women's Forced Labor Camp in Hebei Province for two years. She is now in the No.1 Division of the labor camp. Some people coming out of the labor camp called her family, telling them how she was being persecuted and that she was in a bad health. Ms. Ji's family called the No.1 Division to ask about her and requested to see her. The officials there claimed that everything was fine with her, and refused to let her family visit.

Ms. Ji has been beaten badly by the labor camp guards and inmates. She is forced to stand for long periods of time. She has suffered both physically and mentally. In November 2009, female guard Hou Junmei burned Ms. Ji with heating pipes for four days straight, using the excuse that she did not report to her before going to the toilet. Ms. Ji went on hunger strike out of protest, but was then force-fed.

On November 24, 2010, Ms. Ji was dragged along the ground into the lobby by labor camp guards for long periods of forced standing. She went on a hunger strike to protest, but was force-fed on November 26. Wang Weiwei, head of the No. 1 Division, along with Hou Junmei and others, ordered inmates Zong Dongrong, Zhang Xu, and Yan Xiuying to carry Ms. Ji to the labor camp hospital for force-feeding, which further harmed Ms. Ji's health.

Wang Weiwei also ordered inmates to torture Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Hu Miaomiao, which resulted in severe physical and mental damage. In October 2010, the labor camp started another round of camp-wide persecution against Falun Gong practitioners. They would not allow practitioners to see or call their families. They also forced them to watch slanderous propaganda produced by CCTV, the state-owned television channel.
