(Cleariwsdom.net) Mr. Wang Jiansheng, former Health Clinic Director of the Huanggang City Telecommunications Bureau, was arrested again around May 3, 2011.
Before this arrest, Mr. Wang had already been incarcerated in a detention center twice and sent to brainwashing centers three times for his practice of Falun Gong. When the local police tried to arrest him in October 2003, he managed to escape and was forced to stay away from home. When he finally returned home to see his newborn grandson in May 2011, he was taken into custody by police who had been monitoring his family members since 2003.
Mr. Wang Jiansheng’s Practice of Falun Gong Elevates his Mind and Improves his Health
Mr. Wang had always been a hard-working employee and became the health clinic director of the Huanggang City Telecommunications Bureau in 1993. Over the years he developed numerous chronic diseases, including a slipped disc, pharyngitis, atrophic gastritis, chronic hepatitis B, and cirrhosis of the liver. Even though he was a physician and spent a lot of money on medicine, he couldn’t find a cure for his own health problems. However, within one month of starting his practice of Falun Gong towards the end of 1995, all his illnesses and bad temper disappeared. His child said with great pride, “My dad is a super good person!”
After becoming a Falun Gong practitioner, Mr. Wang worked in earnest to a greater degree. The Chinese health care system is notorious for its corruption. It is very common for pharmaceutical company salespeople to bribe physicians in order for their drugs to be prescribed. His colleagues at the clinic pharmacy said to those salespeople, “Please do not send in any more gifts. Doctor Wang practices Falun Gong and he never accepts presents.” Moreover, there was never a single charge of medical misconduct since he assumed leadership.
Many people witnessed the positive changes in him and they also started to practice Falun Gong. In Huanggang City, there were at least one thousand active practitioners before the persecution began.
Mr. Wang Jiansheng’s Appeal Results in his Demotion and Frequent Job Transfers
When the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) openly launched its persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999, Mr. Wang went to Beijing to appeal. He was illegally arrested and subsequently taken to the Tiananmen Police Station for practicing Falun Gong exercises in Tiananmen Square.
The police were unable to extort any information from him, so they cuffed his hands behind his back, kicked him and pulled up the handcuffs to make him suffer more. The next day, Xia Xiaorong from the Huanggang City Police Department and Fang Guoyin from the Huanggang City Telecommunications Bureau Security Office took him back to the Huanggang City Second Detention Center for 15 days. Before his release, he was ordered to pay 450 yuan to cover meal expenses. His wife also had 3,000 yuan extorted from her by her workplace.
Mr. Wang was asked to report to work the second day after his release. Without his consent the Telecommunications Bureau decided to remove him from the clinic director position and transfer him to the landscaping division to tend to flower beds. Everybody else had two days off a week, but he had to work six days watering the flowers with a 40 lb watering can. It took him dozens of runs to get all the flowers watered every day.
The Telecommunications Bureau then transferred him to the nursery garden division to sell flowers and plants. As soon as he arrived, his hard-working attitude won praise from his coworkers. During his tenure at the division, the Bureau sent people to secretly monitor him and keep track of who he had contact with.
Not long after, the Bureau moved him to a newly established supermarket where they arranged for a female employee to work in the same office. Mr. Wang took every opportunity to clarify the facts to her and other employees, as well as to customers. Once, a Bureau official came to inspect the supermarket and the female coworker said, “Doctor Wang did change for the better. Since beginning the practice of Falun Gong, he never loses his temper.”
Held in Brainwashing Center
At the end of 1999, Cai Zhijun of the Bureau’s Human Resources Division sent Mr. Wang to a local brainwashing center. He refused to be “transformed” and went on a hunger strike to protest. As punishment, he was transferred to the Huanggang City Second Detention Center for further persecution.
At the end of 2000, Mr. Wang was thinking about going to Beijing again to appeal. When a fellow practitioner called him informing him of the train number to take, his phone was being tapped. The Bureau’s Security Office head arrived at his home one hour later telling him to report to work for a conversation with Bureau Director Tao. As soon as he got to his workplace, the security officers drove him to the brainwashing center. On the final day of the brainwashing session, the guards told him to write a guarantee statement, which he firmly refused to do.
Incarcerated at Detention Center for 16 Months
Huangzhou District Police Office Head Zhou Yuhua led three policemen from the Shenglijie Police Station and Echeng District Police Department in Ezhou City and broke into Wang Jiansheng’s home one summer afternoon in 2001. They ransacked everything and confiscated his motorcycle and his son’s computer. They took him to the Echeng Detention Center. The guards forced him to squat for long periods of time and kept tapping his ankles, causing great pain. To make him suffer even more, they forbid him to have bowel movements. They also tortured him, hoping to extort confessions.
When he refused to sign the arrest warrant, the police forced his wife to sign instead. All the clothes and money his family sent in were taken away by the guards. On the day of his release, the guards forced his wife to pay 4,000 yuan for so-called meal expenses.
During the 16 months of detention, Mr. Wang was devastated both mentally and physically. His hair had turned almost completely gray and his 5’9’’ frame weighed only 110 lbs. He had a relapse of his old illnesses and twice his fever peaked as high as 104 degrees. He suffered excruciating pain in his lungs and pancreas, but the detention center refused to allow for him to have medical care. They had to have guards carry him around when they moved him to a different detention cell.
The Telecommunications Bureau suspended his monthly allowance of 300 yuan during his detention. They also sent representatives to the Echeng Police Department asking why he wasn’t given a prison sentence.
Sent to Brainwashing Center Again in 2002
At the end of 2002, Security Office Head Jiang Zhinong went to the supermarket and told Mr. Wang Jiansheng to go to the brainwashing center. He refused and the standoff lasted for about one hour. Jiang Zhinong then called the Shenglijie Police, and two policemen soon arrived and forcibly took Mr. Wang to the brainwashing center inside Huanggang City Second Detention Center. Also taken into custody around the same time were three other local practitioners. During the 20-day brainwashing session, the guards forced the detainees to watch videos slandering Falun Gong almost every day. Mr. Wang went on a hunger strike for two days and refused to write any guarantee statements. He was eventually sent home by representatives from his workplace.
Starting in October 2003, the Telecommunications Bureau stopped issuing Mr. Wang’s retirement checks. He still has a mother in her 80s to take care of. When the police tried to capture him again around October 1, 2003, he managed to escape, but was forced to leave home to avoid further persecution. When he finally returned home in May 2011 to see his newborn grandson, he was arrested again.
