(Clearwisdom.net) Court officials from Jiaonan City in Shandong Province held a court hearing for Ms. Xing Huaiping, Liu Meiqin, Ms. Zhang Xiuhua, and Fu Aixian at Dashan Prison in Qingdao City on the morning of August 23, 2011. Ms. Xing was arrested by officers from Tieshan Road Police Station in Jiaonan City on the morning of February 22. The four practitioners had been held in Dashan Prison for over seven months, and their family members were denied visitation rights.
None of the practitioners’ families were officially notified of the trial. However, when Ms. Xing's family members learned that she was going to be tried on August 23, they hired a lawyer from Beijing to defend her.
When Zhang Xiuhua’s family asked Judge Liu Jinren why they were not informed of the trial, Liu said that they could not find their addresses. The family members argued this, and Liu said that he was just following orders from the 610 Office.
The judge attempted to stop the lawyers from meeting with their clients, and even tried to stop them from attending the trial. When a lawyer arrived at the court on the morning of August 22 and showed his documents to the court, Judge Liu Jinren rejected them and demanded that the lawyer provide a license issued by the Justice Department. The lawyer argued that the lawyer’s identity card is acceptable as it has the seal of the Justice Department.
