(Clearwisdom.net) About three months ago, with the encouragement of fellow practitioners, I began to make phone calls to tell people in China the facts about Falun Gong. I didn't anticipate that I would also be making phone calls to rescue practitioners illegally detained by the Chinese communist regime as well. About two months ago I saw my roommate making such phone calls, and I thought to myself that I would like to do the same.
Truly integrating with the rescue phone call team
When I first started to make rescue phone calls, I did not know how to start. After reading a few truth-clarification materials and listening to a few recordings of fellow practitioners’ phone calls, I began to try it myself. In the beginning I felt the task was quite strenuous, even after only dealing with a couple of cases a week. I admired practitioners who made calls every day and thought, “I want to call every day, too.” With this thought, I found that the environment began to change, and then I could also call every day and have persisted doing so for over two months.
Below are some of my experiences making rescue calls:
From being affected to not being affected
With the experience I had gained talking to people face to face about Falun Gong and the persecution, it was easier for me to make rescue calls than it might otherwise have been. Except for a few occasional exceptions, other people’s harsh language did not affect me.
Once I called a very stubborn person. I talked with him for a long time but to no avail, and I ran out words to say. I realized that I was affected by an ordinary person and that I was stirred because of my own attachment of being afraid of other people’s criticism.
After the realization, I found that the attachment diminished. I could sense its presence and correct myself whenever it emerged, and I could keep my mind essentially not disturbed while making calls.
From not being affected to having benevolence
As time went on, I found that when I was faced with corrupt police calling me names, I was unaffected by it and even began to develop benevolence. Once, a policeman called me names as soon as he picked up the phone. He kept on doing so for the next 10 calls I made. I was going to give up, but suddenly I had a thought: “I have to let him see the truth and save him.” My tears began to fall, and I then made another call. At first he still called me names, but gradually he softened. At last he learned the facts about Falun Gong and wished me well.
Managing my time
I also worked for the TV station full time and was very busy, so I felt a bit tired making rescue phone calls. However, as soon as I had the thought of saving sentient beings, I would immediately have righteous thoughts, and I found that my wisdom would emerge. In almost every phone call, I was able to help someone understand the facts, based on the power of benevolence. I made sure that I worked one or two cases every day, and I also spent a couple of hours on Fa study daily. However, I was not very consistent in doing the exercises.
Discovering my shortcomings
I thought I was doing my best, but in sharing with fellow practitioners, I found that I still had a lot of room to improve. One practitioner told me that in a particular project, they needed to work at least 12 hours a day, sleeping only 4-5 hours. In the meantime they were not missing any Fa study or exercise. I was quite impressed.
Teacher said in “Dafa Disciples Must Study the Fa”:
“I also wanted to set an example for other projects, and have you see how Shen Yun does things—so you have something to reference. Thus we have really taken seriously the quality of the performances and the members’ training, and the results out there have been excellent. At first, whenever you were selling tickets somewhere, you wouldn’t dare say that this was the best. But the superior impact of Shen Yun’s performances has given you confidence, and over time, the more you have worked on this, the more confidence you have had—to the point that you would venture to say this is the best.”
Reflecting on this, I found a lot of shortcomings in myself, such as a lack of perseverance and not being serious enough about many things.
Through making rescue phone calls, I got rid of many attachments and my xinxing has elevated correspondingly. I hope that I can be more diligent and continue to elevate my xinxing and save more people.
