Ms. Wu Hongbin, born in 1966, was formerly employed at the Wuhan Smelter Factory. After the factory was shut down, she began working odd jobs in other cities to earn tuition for her son to go to school.
Disease Disappears after Practicing Falun Gong
Because Ms. Wu worked in the smelting factory for a long period of time, she suffered from an illness that she contracted from the contaminated air. In 1978, the factory had to be shut down, so Ms. Wu lost her source of income and had no money for medical treatment.
After Falun Gong became popular in Wuhan, one of Ms. Wu's former co-workers introduced the practice to her. After she read Zhuan Falun, she began to practice. Shortly afterward, her illness disappeared. She also became a better person and her family became happier.
Brainwashing Center and Arrest
After the persecution of Falun Gong began, an old elementary school in Ms. Wu's neighborhood was turned into a brainwashing center, and practitioners were taken there and tortured. After she learned of this, she attempted to expose such crimes, and she also told people the benefits that she personally gained from the practice.
Li Yingjie, an officer from the Jiang'an District 610 Office, pressured the officials of the community committee to harass and threaten Ms. Wu. They ordered her to give up the practice and write a guarantee statement, but Ms. Wu refused.
Li Yingjie got angry, and on December 1, 2005, he called Ms. Wu's temporary workplace, the Jiang'an District Environmental Sanitation Bureau, in an attempt to force Ms. Wu into giving up the practice. Li tried to threaten the security of Ms. Wu's job, but she refused to give in. On December 2, 2005, her employer bowed to the pressure and fired her. That same night, community guards and several officers from the Jiang'an District 610 Office broke into her home and arrested her. At around 3:00 a.m. on December 3, her husband found that she was missing.
Six years have passed, and Ms. Wu's husband and her son have not heard from her. Her whereabouts are unknown.
