(Minghui.org) I was born in a poor village in the Shangluo area of Shaanxi Province in 1969. As a child my meals consisted mostly of boiled vegetables, and I seldom even had corn porridge. When I was 16, our farm crop was destroyed by a hail storm. My father relocated our family of six to Hebei. I married a man who was more than ten years older than me. At that time, there were only several small rooms in his family's home and we barely survived. I later gave birth to a boy and a girl, which made life even more difficult.
My Illness Vanished after Cultivating Dafa
In 1999, when I was just 30 years old, I developed hyperplasia of the mammary glands. My left breast became hard and very painful, so I decided to borrow money for treatment. At about the same time, a Falun Dafa practitioner gave me a copy of Zhuan Falun. As I read the book I began to feel better and better. A month later, I found a practice site near my home and learned how to do the exercises with a group of practitioners. I really didn't think about my condition very much. Magically, the pain disappeared after I practiced the Falun Dafa exercises. I told my husband, “I went to practice Falun Dafa today and I haven't had any breast pain all night. I have not felt so comfortable in years!” We both were delighted! After practicing the exercises for four days, my breasts became normal. I have since become a changed person and very self-confident.
However, in July of 1999, Jiang Zemin began the campaign to persecute Falun Dafa, and ordered the media to spread propaganda about the practice. Many people were confused and even lost regarding what the truth actually was. Luckily, the people in my village all knew how amazing Falun Dafa was as a result of my experience. My entire family supported me. My husband, as the village secretary, did many things to support my practice of Falun Dafa.
Since I benefited so much from practicing Dafa, I felt a responsibility to clarify the truth to sentient beings. I strictly followed the Dafa principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. My parents-in-law, who were both over 80, could not take care of themselves, and my mother in-law is blind. I bathed them, washed their clothes, cooked for them, and cleaned their rooms. I did what any daughter-in-law should do. They were appreciative of my care, and my mother in-law said with tears in her eyes, “I won't forget how you helped us, even after I die.”
Encouraging My Husband to Not Be Corrupt
In China, a village branch secretary is actually a very low level official. However, this position is supported by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and a person in this position can sometimes behave in a corrupt manner. Most of the officers in such roles live in a nice building and drive a car. I understand how precious Dafa is and so I wonder why anyone would rather have money but keep their illnesses. Thus, I warned my husband to not be interested in gaining money through corrupt means. However, in such a corrupt environment, villagers always brought gift items when they needed my husband's help. I told my husband that he should not accept any gifts. Whenever someone brought him a gift, I returned it. My husband then told everyone, "If you want my help, please don't bring any gifts, since my wife will only return them. She does not allow me to keep any gifts."
If someone comes to my home, I usually tell them that we follow Master's requirements and consider others at all times. My husband will not seek money like most officers do. I said to my husband, “You have a responsibility to benefit others and to do what a village branch secretary should do.” My husband always opposes unreasonable rules suggested by the country government. Our village saves lots of money every year, and all of the villagers realize that they have a good secretary.
Most of the CCP members have tried different ways to seek a secretary position. Thus, at election time, many secretaries in other villages sent money or gifts to CCP members in order to keep their seats, but my husband never did that, and for more than ten years he was elected by a unanimous vote. My husband has worked for many years, but our life has still been tough. Most of the villagers live in bigger and newer houses, but we still live in a 30-year-old home. When the CCP organizes a meeting that officers must attend, most of the officers drive cars, but my husband rides an old motorcycle. When auditors check the village accounts, other secretaries commit fraud and offer gifts to the auditors. My husband is always very relaxed about the audits and says, “I don't fear the audits. They are welcome to check our village accounts and my personal account anytime they wish.”
Villagers Speak Out Against the Persecution of Falun Dafa
My husband and I consider the other villagers all the time because I practice Falun Dafa. However, since 1999, officials from the 610 Office have frequently disturbed my family.
In February 2006, the town security forced police officers in our village to search my home illegally. They took away my Dafa materials and I was forced to become homeless. They also sought other information about me and my activities. Our families were very worried about my safety. My children cried every day. Since my husband did not cooperate with the 610 Office agents, he was arrested as well. The township clerk helped get my husband released. I was released and allowed to go home, but only after my husband was forced to pay 3,000 yuan for my meals while detained and a 5,000 yuan fee. They have since also made us supply them with eggs from our chicken farm.
One morning in the winter of 2008, six or seven police officers were going to arrest me. I hid in my neighbor's home and then jumped onto the roof of another house. I fell off, but kept running as four officers followed close behind me. There were so many people around. A lady holding a child asked the police officer, “Why don't you arrest bad people, not good people?” A small man nearby helped me to escape from that officer. I then ran to another neighbor's home and told her, “There is a police officer trying to arrest me and I need to hide here.” She helped me to stay in a safe place which enabled me to escape arrest.
