Former Legal Daily Reporter Disappears for Over a Month, Now Faces Sentencing

January 11, 2013 |   By a Minghui correspondent from Hebei Province, China

(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Yang Zhixiong, a former reporter for Legal Daily, disappeared over a month ago. His family received a notice on December 9, 2012, stating that he was detained and facing sentencing. The case against him was fabricated by the 610 Office and presented to the court. His court date was scheduled for December 25, 2012.

On November 3, 2012, Guo Junxue from the Xiong County Domestic Security Division along with a dozen others arrested Mr. Yang at his workplace, the Beijing-Shunyi Environmental Protection Company.

Mr. Yang is 48 years old. He was formerly a reporter for the Legal Daily. Because he steadfastly practiced Falun Dafa, he was arrested in 2003 and sentenced to four years in jail. After his release, he lost his job. He was hired by an environmental company in October 2012 but was arrested again only a month later.

After his family learned of his arrest, they went to Beijing to determine where he was being detained. They were told that Guo Junxue and Shi Guoqiang from Xiong County had taken Mr. Yang. Mr. Yang's family found Guo Junxue, who adamantly denied that he'd made the arrest, in the Domestic Security Division. They called vice director of the police department Su Shiliang, who also denied the arrest. They then asked 610 Office director Guo Xiangdong; he denied it as well.

Mr. Yang's family had no choice but to return to the Beijing-Shunyi Police Station, where they presented a copy of Guo Junxue's ID and verified that Guo had taken Mr. Yang away. At that time, Mr. Yang's whereabouts had been unknown for over one month. This incident has now been publicized on overseas Internet media.

On December 3, Mr. Yang's family found Guo Junxue again. This time he admitted arresting Mr. Yang but didn't know where he was, since the arrest was ordered by 610 Office director Guo Xiangdong; his family hadn't been notified of his arrest at that time.

On December 10, his family received a notification stating that Mr. Yang had been arrested on December 9. The arrest was orchestrated by the 610 Office and Domestic Security Division. In their attempt to move his case up, they concealed the fact that Mr. Yang had been detained since November 3.

On December 12, 2012, the Xiong County Procuratorate issued an arrest warrant. On December 14, the Procuratorate filed suit against Mr. Yang. By this time, the case had already been transferred to the court and Mr. Yang was scheduled to be tried on December 25. His family hired a lawyer from Beijing, but the Xiong County Court attempted to deter his defense lawyer by preventing him from interviewing Mr. Yang and reviewing his case. His lawyer exposed their illegal act and will now sue the Xiong County Court and in the process, record the court's illegal behavior on the Internet.

At this time, Mr. Yang's lawyer is not allowed to see him. His family does not know how Mr. Yang is faring.
