Mr. Duan Changhe Arrested in Raid, Ninety-year-old Father Longs for Son's Return

(Minghui.org) On August 28, 2012, over ten Falun Gong practitioners in Xinmin City, Liaoning Province were arrested by officers from the Shenyang City Domestic Security Division, the Xinmin City Domestic Security Division and various local police stations. The arrested practitioners include Mr. Duan Changhe, Mr. Cao Yang, Ms. Chen Xiu, Mr. Yu Xin, Mr. Hu Lin, Mr. Wang Jing, Ms. Li Yan, Mr. Bai Luchun, Mr. Pan Youfa, Mr. Hu Baokuan, Mr. Hui Liqi, Mr. Yang Guifeng, Ms. Li Huiling and Mr. Yu Lifeng. Most of them are still illegally detained.

Mr. Duan Changhe's father, from Gaohuangdi Village, Xinnong Township, is over 90 years old. The family has not yet told him of his son's arrest, for fear of upsetting him. For the past three months, the elderly man has been looking forward to his son's return, asking, “Why hasn't he come home after so long?”

Duan Changhe was arrested by officers from the Xinnong Township Police Station and the Shenyang City Domestic Security Division. Mr. Duan owns a taxi business. When he and his son were out working together driving their taxi, the police broke into Ms. Duan's home and ransacked it. Police officer Wang Lei from the Xinnong Township Police Station brought people to the home of Mr. Duan's son, and illegally searched his garage. Wang Lei, a former classmate of Duan Changhe's son, forcibly pried open two locked boxes. The villagers were indignant upon hearing of this breach of the law, questioning why a classmate would do such a thing.

Mr. Duan Changhe is acknowledged by the neighborhood as a very good man. His family of four generations, from his 90-year-old father to his 6-year-old grandson, live together in harmony. Besides farming, he also drives a taxi, loves to help others and is never concerned about money. He helps villagers who have financial hardship by driving them for free to weddings and funerals. After learning of Mr. Duan's arrests, many villagers have condemned the police's behavior.

The family has not yet told Mr. Duan's father that he has been arrested, telling him instead that he went out to work. The old man has not seen his son for a long time, and constantly asks after him. He misses his son very much.
