(Minghui.org) Ms. Yang Manye is a Falun Gong practitioner in the Putuo District of Shanghai. More than ten police officers from the Domestic Security Division broke into Ms. Yang’s house and conducted a search on the evening of October 9. She and three other practitioners--Chen Xiuying, Luo Xiuli, and Miao Lanying--were illegally arrested. Ms. Yang’s husband and son were also held under duress. They were not allowed to return until the next morning.
This is the fifth time that Ms. Yang has been arrested and detained. She was robbed of three computers, one printer, Falun Gong related materials, and cash. The four practitioners were taken to the Putuo District Detention Center.
First Arrest and Prison Sentence
Ms. Yang, who lives on Shuangshan Road in the Putuo District, was arrested when she was passing out Falun Gong-related materials at the end of 2000. She was sentenced to four years after being detained in the Putuo District Detention Center for nine months.
She was sent to Songjiang Women's Prison and was forced to do a bond service job. Because she was persecuted for a long time, she felt run down. She fell and fractured her knees, resulting in two surgeries. Nevertheless, the prison extended her sentence by nine months, claiming she had Falun Gong articles in her possession.
Second and Third Arrests
Ms. Yang was released from prison in August 2005. In less than six months, she was again arrested by the Domestic Security Division in the Putuo District, and sent to Qingpu Forced Labor Camp for a year and a half.
Ms. Yang was arrested for the third time on June 6, 2009. More than ten people from the Domestic Security Division and 610 Office, led by local officer Chen Hongbing, broke into Ms. Yang’s house and attacked her 16-year-old son who tried to stop them.
They confiscated her personal property and threatened her husband and in-laws. The next day, the police tried to arrest her son. Her family hired a lawyer to protect their legal rights. Because a lawyer was involved and the family was adamant, Ms. Yang was released a month later.
Sent to a Brainwashing Center
On October 22, 2009, Ms. Yang was deceived into talking with the Domestic Security Division in the Putuo District and 610 Office and was arrested. Later she was sent to a brainwashing center to be “transformed.”
After this fourth arrest, Ms. Yang’s family went to the police station to ask for her return. The police sent them to the Domestic Security Division. When her family went to look for the Domestic Security Division, no one was present. Then they went to the community Complaints Office. Director Wang in the office told them that Ms. Yang could post bail to await trial but with restrictions and that the Domestic Security Division and 610 Office had the right to do that. He also said, “If you feel that's unfair, you can sue them, but, as you know, your efforts will be fruitless. ”
Ms. Yang wants to be a good person, to say what she wants to say, to not give up her belief, and to let more sentient beings know the truth about Falun Gong and not be interfered with by lies. For doing these things, she has been arrested five times and her home searched. Her entire family lives in fear because of the persecution. She cannot be at home to take care of her daughter.
